Post-Game Challenges
Congratulations, hero of Holodrum! You've vanquished Onox and restored the seasons. But your adventure doesn't have to end there. Oracle of Seasons offers a wealth of post-game content for the truly dedicated Link, from collecting every last item to facing down the ultimate challenge in a Linked Game. Prepare to delve deeper into Holodrum's secrets!
Linked Game Secrets: The True Ending
The most significant post-game challenge, and indeed the true conclusion to the Oracle saga, is playing a Linked Game. After completing Oracle of Seasons, you'll receive a Secret Code. This code can be used to start a new game in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (or vice-versa), carrying over certain progress and unlocking a combined narrative that culminates in a final, challenging boss encounter.
Starting a Linked Game
- Complete Oracle of Seasons: Defeat Onox and watch the credits roll.
- Record Your Secret: After the credits, you'll be given a long, multi-character Secret Code. Write this down carefully!
- Start Oracle of Ages: Insert your Oracle of Ages cartridge (or launch the game on your virtual console).
- Select "Secret" at the Title Screen: Instead of "New Game," choose the "Secret" option.
- Input Your Code: Carefully enter the Secret Code you received from Oracle of Seasons.
- Confirm and Begin: If entered correctly, the game will confirm the link and start your new adventure in Labrynna, with some key differences.
Linked Game Benefits & Changes
- Carried Over Items: You'll start your Oracle of Ages journey with certain items from your Oracle of Seasons save, such as the Red Ring or Blue Ring (if you obtained them), and potentially upgraded Swords.
- New NPCs and Dialogue: Characters in Labrynna will occasionally reference events or people from Holodrum, adding depth to the narrative.
- Hero's Cave: A special dungeon, the Hero's Cave, will appear in Oracle of Ages, offering unique challenges and rewards.
- The True Final Boss: Upon completing Oracle of Ages in a Linked Game, you will unlock a special final dungeon and face the true antagonists of the saga: Twinrova and the resurrected Ganon. This is a significantly tougher fight than Onox or Veran alone and requires mastery of both games' mechanics.
Item Completionist: The Hunt for Every Trinket
Even without a Linked Game, there are plenty of items and upgrades you might have missed during your initial playthrough. Becoming a true completionist involves tracking down every last Ring, Heart Piece, and Gasha Seed reward.
Rings, Rings, Rings!
There are 64 unique rings in Oracle of Seasons, offering several passive buffs and effects. While some are found in chests or as quest rewards, many are obtained randomly from the Ring Shop in Horon Village (after identifying them at the Vasu's Ring Shop) or from planting Gasha Seeds.
- Gasha Seed Farming: Plant Gasha Seeds in soft soil spots throughout Holodrum. The quality of the soil and the number of enemies defeated can influence the rarity of the ring you receive. Good spots include the screen south of Impa's Refuge, and various locations in Natzu and Subrosia.
- Vasu's Ring Shop: Always identify new rings at Vasu's shop. Once identified, they are added to your Ring Box and can be appraised.
- Ring Box Upgrade: Ensure you have the L-3 Ring Box (capacity 20 rings). This is obtained by showing Vasu 30 unique rings.
- Trading Secrets: In a Linked Game, you can exchange certain ring secrets between games, helping to fill out your collection faster.
Heart Piece Hoarder
There are a total of 16 Heart Pieces scattered across Holodrum, forming four full Heart Containers. If you haven't reached a full 14 hearts, now's the time to track down any you missed. Many require specific items or seasonal changes to access.
- Check Your Map: Review your in-game map for any areas you might not have fully explored.
- Seasonal Puzzles: Many Heart Pieces are hidden behind environmental puzzles requiring the Rod of Seasons. For example, using winter to freeze water or summer to dry up rivers.
- Subrosia's Secrets: Don't forget the hidden corners of Subrosia, which often contain Heart Pieces or clues to their locations.
- Mini-Games: Some Heart Pieces are rewards for excelling at mini-games, such as the Target Carts in Subrosia or the Boomerang Game in Holodrum.
Gasha Seed Garden
Beyond rings, Gasha Seeds can also yield valuable items like Potions, Fairies, or even Rupees. While not strictly "completion," maximizing your Gasha Tree yields can be a satisfying post-game activity, ensuring you're always stocked for any challenge.
The Master Sword
For the ultimate sword upgrade, you'll need to play a Linked Game. The Noble Sword is the best you can get in a standalone Oracle of Seasons playthrough. However, by linking your game to Oracle of Ages, you can eventually obtain the legendary Master Sword.
- Oracle of Ages Requirement: You must first obtain the Noble Sword in Oracle of Ages.
- Secret from Ages: Once you have the Noble Sword in a Linked Oracle of Ages game, you'll receive a special Secret Code from a specific NPC (often a Maku Tree or a character in a town).
- Return to Seasons: Input this Secret Code into your Oracle of Seasons save file (via the "Secrets" menu at the title screen or by speaking to the relevant NPC in-game, often the Maku Tree).
- Claim Your Prize: Upon successfully entering the code, the Maku Tree in Holodrum will bestow upon you the mighty Master Sword, the most powerful blade in the game.
Whether you're aiming for a full ring collection, a complete Heart Container bar, or the epic conclusion of the Linked Game, Holodrum and Labrynna still hold many adventures for the seasoned hero!
