Dungeon Specific Puzzles
Welcome, aspiring engineer, to the heart of our guide! This section delves into the intricate puzzles found within each of Spirit Tracks' challenging dungeons. We'll provide detailed, step-by-step solutions to help you navigate these ancient labyrinths and recover the lost Spirit Tracks. Remember, patience and keen observation are your best allies!
Tower of Spirits (First Visit)
Your initial foray into the Tower of Spirits is primarily a tutorial for controlling Phantom Zelda and utilizing the Spirit Flute. Don't underestimate these early lessons, as they form the foundation for later, more complex challenges.
- Phantom Control Tutorial:
- Upon entering, Zelda will possess a Phantom. Use the stylus to draw a path for Phantom Zelda to follow.
- Direct Phantom Zelda to stand on the floor switch in the first room. This will open the door for Link.
- In the next corridor, guide Phantom Zelda past the Gargantuan Ghosts (the large, invincible Phantoms) by drawing a path that avoids their line of sight. If she's spotted, she'll return to your side.
- Use Phantom Zelda to block the path of a Gargantuan Ghost while Link sneaks past. Remember, Phantoms are impervious to most attacks and can withstand enemy blows.
- Spirit Flute Introduction:
- After obtaining the Spirit Flute, you'll encounter a room with a Spirit Orb pedestal.
- Play the correct tune on the Spirit Flute (indicated by the glowing notes on the screen) to activate the pedestal and reveal a path or open a door. The first tune is usually simple, requiring only one or two notes.
Forest Temple
The Forest Temple introduces the Whirlwind item and requires clever use of its air-bending abilities to solve environmental puzzles and defeat enemies.
- Whirlwind Acquisition:
- Navigate through the initial rooms, defeating Deku Babas and avoiding Spiked Beetles.
- You'll eventually reach a room with a large, central platform and several smaller platforms. Look for a chest on one of these smaller platforms. Use the Boomerang (if you have it, otherwise you'll get the Whirlwind first) to hit a switch or activate a mechanism that raises a bridge to the chest containing the Whirlwind.
- Windmill Puzzles:
- Throughout the temple, you'll encounter windmills that need to be spun to activate doors or raise platforms. Use the Whirlwind by blowing into your DS microphone or tapping the screen repeatedly to create a gust of wind.
- Example: In the room with the rotating platforms, use the Whirlwind to spin the central windmill, causing the platforms to rotate and allowing Link to cross to the other side.
- Bomb Flower Activation:
- Some areas are blocked by cracked walls or boulders. You'll find Bomb Flowers growing nearby.
- Use the Whirlwind to blow a Bomb Flower towards the obstruction. Time your gust carefully to ensure the Bomb Flower lands precisely where needed before it explodes.
Snow Temple
The Snow Temple is characterized by icy floors, frozen mechanisms, and the introduction of the Boomerang. Mastering its trajectory is key to progression.
- Boomerang Acquisition:
- Traverse the slippery ice paths, being mindful of Freezards and Ice Keese.
- You'll find the Boomerang in a chest after defeating a mini-boss (often a larger version of a standard enemy, like a Big Blin).
- Torch Lighting Puzzles:
- Many doors in the Snow Temple are sealed until all nearby torches are lit.
- Locate a lit torch or a source of fire (like a Fire Keese). Use the Boomerang to draw a path from the flame source to the unlit torches. The Boomerang will carry the flame and light them.
- Advanced Tip: Sometimes you'll need to hit multiple torches with a single throw. Plan your Boomerang's path carefully, curving it around obstacles if necessary.
- Crystal Switch Activation:
- Certain switches are encased in ice, making them inaccessible to Link's sword.
- Use the Boomerang to hit these crystal switches from a distance, often through small openings or around corners.
Ocean Temple
The Ocean Temple introduces the Bow and requires precise aiming and strategic use of arrows to hit distant targets and solve water-based puzzles.
- Bow Acquisition:
- Navigate the submerged and partially submerged rooms, dealing with Octoroks and Shellfish.
- The Bow is typically found after a mid-dungeon boss encounter or in a prominent chest in a central chamber.
- Target Shooting:
- Numerous doors and platforms are activated by hitting eye switches or crystal targets with arrows.
- Tap the Bow icon, then drag the stylus to aim. Release to fire. Practice your aim, especially for moving targets.
- Underwater Switches:
- Some switches are located underwater and can only be activated by specific means.
- Look for switches that react to arrows. You may need to stand on a higher platform to get a clear shot at a submerged target.
- Phantom Zelda Interaction: In later sections, you might need Phantom Zelda to stand on a pressure plate while Link shoots an arrow at a target to open a gate simultaneously.
