Welcome, hero! This section will guide you through the core narrative of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, from your humble beginnings in Hyrule Town to your climactic confrontation with Vaati. Follow these steps closely to ensure you don't miss a single crucial detail or item on your quest to save Princess Zelda and restore peace to Hyrule.
The Picori Festival and Vaati's Curse
Your adventure begins on the day of the annual Picori Festival. After a brief tutorial on basic movement and interaction with your Grandpa, the Royal Blacksmith, you'll be tasked with delivering the newly forged Picori Blade to Princess Zelda at Hyrule Castle.
- Objective: Deliver the Picori Blade.
- Location: Hyrule Town, Hyrule Castle.
- Steps:
- Exit your house in South Hyrule Field.
- Head north into Hyrule Town.
- Navigate through Hyrule Town to the north exit, leading to Hyrule Castle Garden.
- Speak with Princess Zelda at the castle entrance. She will give you the Wake-Up Call item.
- Proceed inside Hyrule Castle for the festival ceremony.
- Witness the arrival of Vaati, the mysterious sorcerer, who shatters the Picori Blade and turns Princess Zelda to stone.
- After the chaos, the King will instruct you to seek the Minish (Picori) for help.
Meeting Ezlo and the First Dungeon: Deepwood Shrine
With Zelda petrified and the Picori Blade broken, your journey truly begins. You must find the Minish and the four Elemental Essences to reforge the blade and defeat Vaati. Your first stop is the Minish Woods.
- Objective: Find the Minish and the first Elemental Essence.
- Location: Minish Woods, Deepwood Shrine.
- Steps:
- Exit Hyrule Castle and head back through Hyrule Town to South Hyrule Field.
- Proceed east to the Minish Woods.
- As you enter, you'll encounter Ezlo, a talking cap, who will join you on your quest. He grants you the ability to shrink to Minish size at designated Minish Portals.
- Follow Ezlo's instructions, navigating through the woods. You'll need to use your sword to cut down bushes and defeat enemies.
- Locate a Minish Portal (a tree stump) and shrink down. Explore the Minish Village, speaking to the tiny inhabitants.
- The Minish Elder will tell you about the Deepwood Shrine and the first Elemental Essence.
- Enter the Deepwood Shrine, located in the northern part of Minish Woods.
- Deepwood Shrine Walkthrough:
- Key Item: The Gust Jar. Found in a chest after defeating the first set of enemies in the central room. Use it to clear away dust, cross gaps by sucking up lily pads, and stun enemies.
- Puzzle: Use the Gust Jar to clear spider webs and activate switches.
- Boss: Big Green ChuChu. To defeat it, use the Gust Jar to suck it up until it turns blue, then hit it with your sword. Repeat this process until it's defeated.
- Upon defeating the Big Green ChuChu, you will obtain the Earth Element.
Mount Crenn and the Cave of Flames
With the Earth Element in hand, Ezlo will direct you towards the second Elemental Essence, located in the fiery depths of Mount Crenn.
- Objective: Obtain the second Elemental Essence.
- Location: Mount Crenn, Cave of Flames.
- Steps:
- Return to Hyrule Town and head west to Lon Lon Ranch.
- Speak to Malon and Talon. You'll need to help them clear their house of Cuccos.
- Proceed north from Lon Lon Ranch to reach Mount Crenn.
- Ascend Mount Crenn, utilizing Minish Portals to navigate small passages and avoid obstacles.
- Enter the Cave of Flames.
- Cave of Flames Walkthrough:
- Key Item: The Mine Cart. You'll find a mine cart in the early sections; activate it to traverse large gaps.
- Key Item: The Mole Mitts. Found in a chest after solving a series of lava-based puzzles. These allow you to dig through soft earth walls.
- Puzzle: Use the Mole Mitts to uncover hidden paths and access new areas. Be careful of lava and fire-based enemies.
- Boss: Gleerok. To defeat it, use the Mole Mitts to dig under its shell when it's exposed, then attack its vulnerable underside. When it's on the ceiling, use the Mole Mitts to dig up the pillars it's clinging to, causing it to fall.
- After defeating Gleerok, you will acquire the Fire Element.
