Heart Piece Locations

  • Hyrule Town:
    • Piece 1: After gaining the Cane of Pacci, head to the southwest corner of the town square. Use the Cane of Pacci on the small pot to flip it over, revealing a hidden hole. Shrink down using the Minish Portal nearby and enter the hole to find the Heart Piece.
    • Piece 2: Participate in the Cucco-catching mini-game, located in the fenced-off area in the northern part of Hyrule Town. To win, you must catch all the Cuccos within the time limit. The Pegasus Boots are highly recommended to make this much easier.
    • Piece 3: Enter the building directly north of the shoe shop (the one with the green roof). Once inside, shrink down using the Minish Portal on the table. Enter the small hole to the right of the entrance. Navigate the interior, avoiding the enemies, to reach the Heart Piece.
    • Piece 4 (Trigger in Hyrule Town, Piece in Trilby Highlands): Locate the Hurdy-Gurdy Man playing music in the Hyrule Town square (usually near the fountain). Fuse Kinstone pieces with him. This fusion will cause a tree in Trilby Highlands to open. Head to Trilby Highlands, find the newly opened tree, and enter it to claim your Heart Piece.
  • South Hyrule Field:
    • Piece 1: Near the entrance to Hyrule Town, there's a small cave entrance. Inside, you'll find a dusty area. Use the Gust Jar to clear the dust, revealing a switch. Step on the switch to open a path to the Heart Piece.

  • Eastern Hills:
    • Piece 1: After acquiring the Roc's Cape, head to the eastern side of Eastern Hills, near the entrance to the Wind Ruins. You'll see a series of gaps that can only be crossed by jumping with the Roc's Cape. Jump across these gaps to reach the Heart Piece.
  • Mount Crenn:
    • Piece 1: Enter the cave located on the western side of Mount Crenn. Inside, you'll find unlit torches. Use the Flame Lamp (not Flame Lantern) to light all the torches, which will open a path to the Heart Piece.
    • Piece 2: There's a Minish in one of the caves on Mount Crenn (specifically, the one accessible after using the Mole Mitts to dig through a wall). Fuse Kinstone pieces with this Minish. This fusion will cause a chest to appear in the same cave, containing a Heart Piece.

Kinstone Fusions

Kinstone Fusions are a core mechanic in The Minish Cap, unlocking new areas, items, Heart Pieces, and even Minish portals. There are 100 unique Kinstone Fusions in total, categorized by their shapes (Green, Blue, Red, and Gold). Successfully completing all fusions is essential for 100% completion and unlocks many secrets across Hyrule.

Kinstone Types and Rewards

Always carry a good stock of Kinstones. Talk to every NPC you encounter, as many will offer fusions. If an NPC has a thought bubble with a Kinstone piece, they're ready to fuse. Prioritize fusions that reveal new paths or Heart Pieces.

  • Green Kinstones: These are the most common type and often trigger minor events, reveal small caves with Rupees or items, or open up new Minish-sized passages.
    • First Fusion (Mandatory): With Ezlo, early in the game, to open a path in Minish Woods.
    • Hyrule Town Residents: Many townsfolk (e.g., the man sweeping near the fountain, the woman in the cafe) will offer Green Kinstone Fusions, often revealing chests in various locations or opening small passages. Talk to everyone!
    • Minish Woods Minish: Several Minish in the Minish Woods will offer fusions that open up small areas with Rupees or items.
    • Trilby Highlands Minish: Fuse with the Minish in the cave near the entrance to Hyrule Town to reveal a chest with Rupees.
  • Blue Kinstones: Typically trigger more significant events, like opening up new areas, revealing Heart Pieces, or creating beanstalks.
    • Mayor Hagen (Hyrule Town): Fuse with Mayor Hagen in his house in Hyrule Town. This fusion will open a path in the Royal Valley, leading to a grave that hides a Heart Piece.
    • Percy (Trilby Highlands): Fuse with Percy, the postman, who can be found walking around Trilby Highlands. This fusion will make a specific tree in Trilby Highlands disappear, revealing a cave with a Heart Piece.
    • Gentleman in Lake Hylia House: Fuse with the man in the house in the southwestern part of Lake Hylia. This fusion will cause a beanstalk to grow outside, leading to a cloud with a Heart Piece.
    • Goron (Lon Lon Ranch): Fuse with the Goron in Lon Lon Ranch (after completing the Goron quest). This will cause a new Goron to appear in the cave, and further fusions will eventually lead to a Heart Piece.
  • Red Kinstones: Often lead to major rewards, including Heart Pieces, unique items, or access to important areas.
    • King Daltus (Hyrule Castle): Fuse with King Daltus in Hyrule Castle. This fusion will open a secret passage in the castle, leading to a chest with a large Rupee amount.
    • Gillian (Veil Falls): Fuse with Gillian, the woman near the waterfall in Veil Falls. This fusion will reveal a hidden spring, which is part of a larger side quest.
    • Talon (Lon Lon Ranch): Fuse with Talon in Lon Lon Ranch. This fusion will cause a large tree in Eastern Hills to open, revealing a secret area with a large Rupee amount.
  • Gold Kinstones: These are the rarest and most important, always leading to a significant event or item, often tied to main story progression or unlocking the final secrets. There are only a few of these.
    • Wind Tribe Elder (Wind Ruins): Fuse with the Wind Tribe Elder in the Wind Ruins. This crucial fusion unlocks the path to the Palace of Winds, a major dungeon.
    • Potho (Minish Village): Fuse with Potho in the Minish Village after completing the fourth dungeon. This fusion will reveal a secret area in the Minish Village with a significant reward.
    • Ezlo (Various Locations): Ezlo will offer Gold Kinstone Fusions at key points in the story, usually to open up paths or reveal important items necessary for progression.

Figurines

There are 130 Figurines to collect from Carlov's Figurine Shop in Hyrule Town. Each figurine costs 1 Mysterious Shell, which are dropped by enemies or found in chests. Collecting all figurines is purely for completionist bragging rights and unlocks a special reward: a Heart Container from Carlov himself!

Collecting Figurines and Mysterious Shells

  • Carlov's Figurine Shop: Located in the northeast corner of Hyrule Town, identifiable by its unique architecture and the sign with a figurine.
  • Mysterious Shells: These are the currency for figurines.
    • Enemy Drops: Many enemies, especially larger ones or those in dungeons, have a chance to drop Mysterious Shells upon defeat. Farm them by repeatedly entering and exiting areas with high enemy density.
    • Chests: Numerous chests throughout Hyrule contain Mysterious Shells. Keep an eye out in caves, dungeons, and hidden areas.
    • Grass and Pots: Occasionally, cutting grass or breaking pots can yield shells, though this is less common than enemy drops or chests.
    • Minigames: Some minigames offer Mysterious Shells as rewards.

Strategy for Figurines: Purchase figurines whenever you have enough Mysterious Shells. The selection of figurines Carlov offers is random, so you'll need to keep trying until you get them all. It's recommended to start collecting shells early in the game and visit Carlov frequently. The final few figurines can be quite elusive, requiring patience and a large supply of shells.

Bottles

Bottles are invaluable items that can store various liquids, such as Potions, Fairies, or even water. There are four Bottles to find in The Minish Cap, and each one significantly increases Link's utility and survivability.

Bottle Locations

  • Bottle 1:
    • Location: Stockwell's Shop in Hyrule Town.
    • How to Get: This bottle is available for purchase from Stockwell's shop for 100 Rupees. It's recommended to buy this as soon as you have the funds.
  • Bottle 2:
    • Location: Trilby Highlands.
    • How to Get: After obtaining the Cane of Pacci, head to the northern part of Trilby Highlands. Look for a small pond with a shallow hole nearby. Use the Cane of Pacci on the hole to launch yourself onto a higher ledge. Follow this path to find a cave. Inside, you'll find a chest containing the Bottle.
  • Bottle 3:
    • Location: Lake Hylia.
    • How to Get: After obtaining the Flippers, swim to the southwestern part of Lake Hylia. You'll find a small house. Enter it and fuse Kinstone pieces with the inhabitant (this is a Blue Kinstone fusion). This fusion will cause a beanstalk to grow outside. Climb the beanstalk to reach a cloud with a chest containing the Bottle.
  • Bottle 4:
    • Location: Royal Valley.
    • How to Get: In the Royal Valley, there's a grave that can be pushed (after a specific Kinstone fusion with Mayor Hagen opens the path). Push the grave to reveal a hidden cave. Inside, you'll find a chest with the final Bottle.

Strategy for Bottles: Always keep your Bottles filled! Fairies are excellent for emergencies, automatically reviving Link upon defeat. Potions can be purchased from Syrup in the Minish Woods (after a Kinstone fusion reveals her house) or from the Witch's Hut in the Minish Woods. Empty Bottles can also be used to carry water for specific puzzles.

The Mirror Shield is a significant defensive upgrade, especially in later dungeons. The Magical Boomerang is a powerful utility item for a second playthrough.
