4.20. Debug & Hidden Objects

Unlock a treasure trove of unseen items and environmental details with The Sims 4's Debug and Hidden Objects. These are items that are normally inaccessible through regular gameplay or Build/Buy mode but can be accessed using cheats. They range from decorative clutter and environmental props to functional objects that can add an unparalleled level of detail and realism to your builds.

Accessing these objects requires the use of cheats. First, you need to enable the Master Controller Cheat by pressing Ctrl + Shift + C to open the cheat console, then typing testingcheats true and pressing Enter. Once cheats are enabled, you can then enable the bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects cheats. Type bb.showhiddenobjects and press Enter. This will make many hidden objects, such as world-specific decorations and debug items, appear in Build/Buy mode. For an even larger selection, including environmental objects like trees, rocks, and even specific world elements, type bb.showliveeditobjects and press Enter.

After enabling these cheats, go into Build/Buy mode and search for 'debug' in the search bar. This will bring up a vast array of items. Many of these are decorative clutter, like piles of leaves, specific types of rocks, or even the iconic 'Sloppy Trash Pile.' Others are more functional, such as the 'Outdoor Retreat' campfire or various world-specific trees and plants. The bb.showliveeditobjects cheat unlocks an even more extensive list, including items that are part of the game's environment but not typically placeable, such as streetlights, fences, and even specific terrain features. Enabling the Cheats

Open Cheat Console: Press Ctrl + Shift + C.
Enable Testing Cheats: Type testingcheats true and press Enter.
Show Hidden Objects: Type bb.showhiddenobjects and press Enter.
Show Live Edit Objects: Type bb.showliveeditobjects and press Enter.

Finding and Using Debug Items

Search 'debug': In Build/Buy mode, type 'debug' into the search bar.
Filter by Category: Use the object categories to narrow down your search.
Use Live Edit Objects: Search for specific items or use keywords related to the environment (e.g., 'tree,' 'rock,' 'fence').
Place and Decorate: Drag and drop these items into your build to add detail.

Important Considerations

While these cheats unlock incredible creative potential, some debug items may not function like regular Buy Mode objects. They might not have customizable swatches, or their interactions might be limited.
