Every Sim in The Sims 4 has an inventory, a personal space where they can store items they collect, purchase, or receive. Effective inventory management is crucial for keeping track of valuable possessions, organizing collected items, and ensuring your Sims have what they need readily available. This section dives into the mechanics of Sim inventory and provides strategies for keeping it tidy and functional.
To access a Sim's inventory, click on the inventory icon, which typically looks like a box or a backpack, located in the Sim's UI panel. This will open a separate window displaying all the items currently stored by that Sim. Items can include anything from food and drinks to collectibles, crafted goods, and even purchased objects.
Adding items to inventory is usually straightforward. When Sims acquire items through activities like gardening, fishing, crafting, or purchasing from retail stores, these items are often automatically placed in their inventory. You can also manually drag items from your Sim's surroundings into their inventory window.
Removing items from inventory is just as simple: drag the item out of the inventory window and place it in the world, sell it directly from the inventory (if the option is available), or place it into a Sim's personal inventory from a household inventory. Household inventory is a separate storage space accessible from Build/Buy mode, which can hold items for the entire household.
Organizing your Sim's inventory is key to efficient gameplay. Consider dedicating specific inventory slots for certain types of items. For example, keep all collected crystals in one area, harvested produce in another, and important quest items or gifts together. Proper inventory management can save you time and frustration.
