3.14. Travel & World Navigation

Navigating the vibrant worlds of The Sims 4 is a core gameplay mechanic that allows your Sims to explore, socialize, and pursue their goals. Whether it's a quick trip to the local park or a permanent move to a new neighborhood, understanding how to travel and manage your Sims' presence in different locations is essential. the fundamentals of world navigation and travel.

The primary method for traveling between lots within a world, or to entirely different worlds, is through your Sim's phone. Access the phone by clicking the icon in the lower-left corner of the screen. From the phone's menu, you'll find the 'Travel' option. This will present you with a map of all available worlds and the lots within them.

Traveling to a Lot:

  • Select 'Travel' from the phone menu.
  • Choose the world you wish to visit.
  • Select a specific lot (e.g., a restaurant, gym, park, or another Sim's house).
  • You can choose to travel alone or bring along other members of your household.
  • Confirm your selection, and your Sim(s) will instantly appear at the chosen destination.

This is ideal for visiting friends, attending social events, or utilizing community venues. Your Sim will remain at the destination until you choose to travel back home or to another location.

Moving to a New World:

If you wish for your Sim to permanently relocate, you'll use the 'Move Household' option, also found on the phone's travel menu.

  • Select 'Travel' from the phone menu.
  • Choose 'Move Household.'
  • You will then be prompted to select a new world and a lot to move into. You can choose to buy an empty lot, an existing house, or even sell your current home and buy a new one.
  • This process allows you to transfer your entire household and their belongings to a new living situation.

World Types:

The Sims 4 worlds can be broadly categorized:

  • Residential Worlds: These are worlds where your Sims can own and live in houses (e.g., Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, San Myshuno).
  • Community Worlds: These worlds are primarily for visiting and contain venues like parks, libraries, gyms, bars, and restaurants (e.g., Granite Falls, Selvadorada). Some community worlds also have small residential areas.
  • Special Worlds: These are unique worlds tied to specific life states or storylines, such as Forgotten Hollow (Vampires) or Strangerville.

Effective world navigation allows you to experience the full breadth of The Sims 4. Whether you're exploring the bustling city life of San Myshuno, the serene wilderness of Granite Falls, or the spooky streets of Forgotten Hollow, each world offers unique opportunities for your Sims to grow, learn, and thrive.
