Beyond the main objectives, every nook and cranny can hide vital resources, crafting recipes, and even narrative clues that deepen your understanding of the fallen city. Mastering efficient scavenging is key to your survival.

Scavenging Fundamentals

Loot Everything: Seriously. Even seemingly useless items like old rags, broken watches, or empty cans can be broken down into valuable crafting components at your crafting benches back at the bus.
Check High and Low: Don't just look at eye level. Climb onto overturned vehicles, check under beds, inside cabinets, and even on top of shelves. Many valuable items are tucked away out of immediate sight.
Listen for Clues: The game provides subtle audio cues for nearby loot. A faint shimmer sound often indicates a hidden item, while the groans of walkers can alert you to danger or potential scavenging opportunities in their vicinity.

Residential Houses: Focus on kitchens and bathrooms for Food Rations and Medical Supplies (bandages, antiseptic). Bedrooms often contain Wood Scraps and occasional Electronic Components in radios or lamps.
Garages/Sheds: Excellent sources for Metal Scraps, Wood Scraps, and Tools. Look for wrenches, hammers, and car batteries.
Overturned Boats: Along the flooded streets, these can sometimes hide waterproof containers with rare crafting materials or even a weapon.

Via Corolla

School Building: Classrooms and offices are prime spots for Paper, Pens, and Electronic Components. The cafeteria can yield Food Rations. Be wary of large walker groups.
Construction Sites: Rich in Metal Scraps, Wood Scraps, and Concrete Bags. Look for scaffolding and unfinished structures.
Police Cars/Ambulances: Often contain Ammunition, Medical Supplies, and occasionally Firearms. Check the trunks and glove compartments.

Old Town

Shops & Stores: Varying loot depending on the shop type. A hardware store will have more Metal Scraps and Tools, while a grocery store will be abundant in Food Rations.
Apartment Buildings: Explore each apartment thoroughly. Kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms are standard loot spots. Some apartments may have hidden stashes behind loose floorboards or in ventilation shafts.
Church: While primarily a narrative location, the surrounding grounds and any accessible side rooms can sometimes contain religious artifacts (for trade) or basic supplies.

Advanced Exploration Techniques

Night Expeditions: While more dangerous due to increased walker activity, night runs often yield significantly more valuable loot. Consider bringing a powerful flashlight and silenced weapons.
Water Exploration: Don't shy away from wading through flooded areas. Many hidden containers and submerged bodies hold valuable items. Keep an eye out for glowing items underwater.
Environmental Puzzles: Some areas require minor environmental interaction to access hidden rooms or stashes. Look for climbable objects, destructible barriers, or switches that might open new paths. For example, in certain areas of the French Quarter, a specific sequence of lever pulls might open a previously inaccessible attic.
