How to Unlock and Get Rid of the Amnesia Trait

The Amnesia trait in Vampire: The Masquerade — Swansong is a plot-driven affliction acquired during Emem's second scene (Scene 04 - Unknown). It significantly impacts gameplay by reducing all of Emem’s Knowledge skill ratings to 0, preventing her from attempting any Deduction or Education checks. This can hinder progress, particularly in obtaining the Thaumaturgical Coin and limiting options during the scene's final confrontation.

How to Get the Amnesia Trait:
You will automatically acquire the Amnesia trait after playing through Emem’s first memory flashback in Scene 04. This initial memory is unmissable and serves as an introduction to the memory recovery mechanic.

What the Amnesia Trait Does:
The Amnesia trait sets Emem’s Deduction and Education skills to 0. While there are few Deduction checks, several Education checks are present, and failing to attempt them can prevent you from acquiring the Thaumaturgical Coin and limit your choices later in the scene.

How to Get Rid of the Amnesia Trait:
The Amnesia trait is temporary and can be removed by finding and witnessing a sufficient number of Emem’s lost memories scattered throughout the level. Interacting with specific objects will trigger these memories. Many of these objects are subtle and can be easily missed. The process often requires using Emem's Celerity - Blink ability, which consumes Hunger. Some memories may also necessitate the use of Celerity - Fleetness to bypass portcullises, which requires Celerity Rank II or the Tremere Potion to unlock the Tremere Concotion trait. After witnessing a memory, a portal will appear, allowing you to return to reality. Recovering approximately half of the optional memories in the scene is necessary to remove the Amnesia trait.
