Chains of Harrow

Chains of Harrow is a crucial quest that unlocks access to later content like Update 42: The Shadowgrapher. This quest involves collecting various fragments, including those detailing Grineer operations on Mercury and the Grineer Leadership, which provide insight into their genetic degradation and societal structure.

The Chains of Harrow quest is a prerequisite for accessing Update 42: The Shadowgrapher. To begin The Shadowgrapher, players must complete Chains of Harrow and then visit Vesper Relay on Venus.

During the quest, players will encounter various lore fragments that provide background information on the Warframe universe. Examples include:

  • Mercury Fragment: Requires 5 scans on Mercury. The lore describes Galleon fleets overseeing Grineer mining operations, transforming the natural landscape to support Grineer occupancy. An Ordis Transmission related to this fragment asks: "How many times have I done this, Ordis? Remembered and then erased? You are a Cephalon, timeless, patient. Why can't I be blissful in ignorance? Truth only sinks the heart. So stop now."
  • Grineer Leadership Fragment: Also requires 5 scans on Mercury. This fragment details that Grineer are clones from 'Originals' whose genetic material has degraded over time, leading to deformities and susceptibility to diseases. Elite Grineer can afford to cover flawed parts.

These fragments, like other Objects in the Codex, can be scanned using a Codex Scanner to reveal their lore and associated Ordis transmissions.
