The Second Dream quest delves into the mysteries of the Infestation, a techno-organic parasite that transforms both organic and inorganic materials. This quest involves collecting fragments on Eris to uncover lore and Ordis transmissions related to this pervasive threat.

The Infestation is a techno-organic parasite that spreads across the Origin System. It attaches to natural and synthetic forms, digesting and transforming them on a molecular level. Organic materials morph into new homogeneous organisms, while inorganic materials like metals structurally change into a pseudo-organic substance, retaining characteristics of their previous forms.

To progress in The Second Dream, players must collect Infestation Fragments. For example, on the planet Eris, 7 scans are required to complete the Infestation Fragment lore. An Ordis Transmission related to this fragment reveals:

• "This is how my happiness was ruined, Operator. Why did I do it? I was free of the dream, but now it had returned. It was angry. So I conceived of a simple plan: self-destruction, of course. But when the countdown reached mere milliseconds, I thought of you..."
