Open Worlds (Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis)

Warframe's Open Worlds offer a significant departure from the traditional mission-based gameplay, introducing vast, explorable landscapes brimming with unique activities, resources, and reputation systems. These zones are crucial for acquiring powerful new Warframes, weapons, and companions, and mastering them is key to late-game progression.

Plains of Eidolon (Cetus, Earth)

The Plains of Eidolon, accessible from Cetus on Earth, is Warframe's first Open World. It's a day/night cycle zone where different activities become available depending on the time. Day is generally safer, while night brings out the formidable Eidolons.

Initial Steps & Reputation (Ostrons)

  • First Visit: Upon entering Cetus, speak with Konzu to begin your first Bounty. These are multi-stage missions that reward Ostron Standing, Endo, Credits, and occasionally Relics or weapon blueprints.
  • Ostron Standing: Focus on completing Bounties from Konzu. As your Standing increases, you'll unlock new items from other Ostron vendors.
  • Resource Gathering:
    • Mining: Acquire a Nosam Cutter from Old Man Suumbaat. Look for glowing ore veins on rock faces. Blue veins yield common gems like Ferrite and Crimzian, while red veins offer rarer ones like Nyth and Sentirum.
    • Fishing: Purchase a Lanzo Fishing Spear from Fisher Hai-Luk. Different fish appear in various bodies of water (ponds, lakes, ocean) and at different times of day/night. Use bait like Peppered Bait or Luminous Dye to attract specific fish or make them easier to spot.
    • Conservation: Buy a Tranq Rifle from The Business (Orb Vallis) or use the one from Master Teasonai (Cetus). Follow animal tracks and use the rifle to tranquilize creatures for Standing and resources.
  • Crafting & Blueprints: Visit Hok for Zaw components (modular melee weapons) and Old Man Suumbaat for Amp components (for your Operator). These require Ostron Standing and resources gathered from the Plains.

Night Cycle & Eidolon Hunts

Once you've progressed your Operator and acquired an Amp, you can participate in Eidolon Hunts. These are challenging boss fights that occur exclusively at night.

  1. Preparation: Equip your Operator with a decent Amp (e.g., a 1-1-1 or 2-2-3 Amp is a good starting point). Bring a Warframe with strong crowd control or damage buffs like Trinity, Volt, or Chroma.
  2. Locate Teralyst: The smallest Eidolon, the Teralyst, spawns at the start of each night cycle. Look for its glowing presence on the map.
  3. Shield Depletion: Use your Operator's Amp to deplete the Teralyst's shields.
  4. Limb Destruction: Once shields are down, the Teralyst will become vulnerable. Target its glowing Synovias (limbs) with your Warframe's weapons.
  5. Vomvalyst Management: Small Sentient enemies called Vomvalysts will spawn throughout the fight. Destroy them with your Operator to prevent them from recharging the Teralyst's shields.
  6. Capture: After destroying all Synovias, use a Lure (obtained from Konzu's Bounties) to capture the Teralyst. You'll need at least two charged Lures to capture it.
  7. Rewards: Successful captures yield Eidolon Shards (Brilliant and Radiant), which are essential for Focus school progression and crafting.

Orb Vallis (Fortuna, Venus)

The Orb Vallis, accessed from Fortuna on Venus, is a frozen wasteland controlled by the Corpus. It features dynamic weather events and introduces new resource types and a different reputation faction.

Initial Steps & Reputation (Solaris United)

  • First Visit: Head to Fortuna and speak with Eudico to start your first Bounty. Similar to Cetus, these Bounties reward Solaris United Standing, Credits, Endo, and various blueprints.
  • Solaris United Standing: Prioritize Bounties from Eudico. Higher Standing unlocks access to more advanced items from Solaris United vendors.
  • Resource Gathering:
    • Mining: Purchase a Sunpoint Plasma Drill from Smokefinger. Look for glowing ore veins. Blue veins yield common resources like Toreador Magnets and Travorite, while red veins offer rarer ones like Axidrol Alloy and Thyst.
    • Fishing: Acquire a Shock-Prod Fishing Spear from The Business. Fish in the various coolant ponds and caves. Use Spark Bait or Narrow-Spectrum Bait to attract specific fish.
    • Conservation: The Tranq Rifle from The Business is crucial here. Track and tranquilize Vallis fauna like the Pobber, Bolarola, and Horrasque for Standing and resources.
  • Crafting & Blueprints: Visit Rude Zuud for Kitgun components (modular secondary weapons) and Smokefinger for mining tools. The Business also sells various items related to conservation and fishing.

Exploration & Exploiter Orb

The Orb Vallis offers unique environmental challenges and a formidable boss fight.

  • Coolant Spiders: These smaller robotic enemies are common throughout the Vallis. Destroying them can yield valuable resources.
  • Thermal Exploits: During certain weather conditions (like a "Cold Snap"), you may encounter areas with extreme cold. Look for Thermal Regulators to temporarily warm up or use specific Warframe abilities.
  • Exploiter Orb: This massive spider-like boss requires a coordinated team effort to defeat.
    1. Phase 1 (Outside): You'll need to throw Coolant Canisters (found around the Vallis) at the Exploiter Orb to cool it down and expose its vents.
    2. Phase 2 (Inside): Once cooled, the Exploiter Orb will retreat into a cave. Follow it and continue to throw Coolant Canisters at its exposed vents until it is defeated.
    3. Rewards: Defeating the Exploiter Orb yields Crisma Toroids, Exploiter Orb Components, and other valuable resources for crafting and reputation.
