Dreg Enemies
The Dregs are the most common and numerous of the heretical forces you'll encounter on Tertium. These are the lowest-ranking cultists, often driven by desperation, fanaticism, or sheer orance, making them a constant, swarming threat that can overwhelm even the most seasoned Inquisitorial agents.
While individually weak, the sheer volume of Dregs makes them a sificant danger. They will flood your position, overwhelm your defenses, and chip away at your health and toughness with a relentless tide of bodies and crude weaponry. Understanding how to efficiently deal with them is fundamental to survival in Darktide.
Dreg enemies can be broadly categorized by their armament and behavior:
- Dreg Melee: These are the most basic Dregs, armed with crude knives, clubs, or chains. They will rush you headlong, attempting to overwhelm you with a flurry of weak but numerous attacks. They are easily staggered and killed, but their numbers can be their greatest asset.
- Dreg Shooters: These Dregs are armed with basic autoguns or lasguns. They tend to hang back and provide suppressive fire, often in large groups. While their individual shots are not particularly damaging, a volley from a dozen Dreg Shooters can quickly wear down your toughness.
- Dreg Grenadiers: A more dangerous variant, these Dregs will lob crude explosive devices at your position. These grenades deal area-of-effect damage and can stagger players, making them vulnerable to other enemies. Prioritize eliminating Grenadiers before they can deploy their explosives.
- Dreg Brutes: Larger and more heavily built Dregs, often wielding heavier melee weapons. They hit harder than standard melee Dregs and can be more resistant to stagger.
- Dreg Specialists: While less common than their Scab counterparts, Dregs can sometimes field specialized units, such as Dreg Trappers who attempt to net players or Dreg Bombers who throw more potent explosives.
Tactics for Dealing with Dregs:
- Crowd Control: Abilities and weapons that can affect multiple enemies at once are essential. Area-of-effect (AoE) attacks, grenades, and crowd-controlling abilities like the Psyker's Smite or the Zealot's Thunder Hammer special attack are highly effective.
- Efficient Elimination: Don't waste excessive ammunition or powerful abilities on single Dregs. Aim for efficient kills that clear multiple enemies at once. Shotguns, flamethrowers, and rapid-fire weapons excel at this.
- Prioritize Grenadiers and Bombers: These units pose an immediate threat due to their explosive capabilities. Take them out quickly to prevent your team from being staggered or taking sificant damage.
- Maintain Spacing: While Dregs will try to swarm you, try to maintain some spacing to avoid being completely surrounded. Use pushes and dodges to create breathing room.
- Utilize Melee: For melee-focused classes, Dregs are often prime targets. A few well-placed swings can clear out a sificant number of them.
- Be Aware of Flanks: Dregs will often try to flank your position. Keep your head on a swivel and be aware of enemies approaching from the sides or rear.
The Dreg menace is a constant presence in the grim darkness of Darktide. By understanding their threat and employing effective tactics, you can ensure that these heretical masses do not overwhelm your strike team and that the Emperor's light continues to shine on Tertium.
