Master the Ranger Sniper/Scout build in Wasteland 3. Learn optimal attribute and skill progression, perk choices, and combat strategies for devastating ambush attacks and out-of-combat utility.
This guide details the Ranger Sniper/Scout build for Wasteland 3, focusing on initiating combat with powerful ambush attacks and excelling in out-of-combat skill checks.
Role: The Sniper Scout's primary role is to initiate combat with a devastating ambush attack, instantly taking down a target. In the late game, this attack is amplified by +100% ambush damage from 10 levels of Sneaky Shit skill and another +100% from the Lights Out perk, in addition to the +33% bonus damage from the Sadomasochist quirk and +10% damage against humans from the Raider Hater background. When combined with appropriate weapon modifications, equipment, an animal companion, and the Risky Shot weapon ability, the Sniper Scout can inflict over 3,000 damage during a guaranteed critical hit, and even up to 10,000 damage in case of a mega-crit. Outside of combat, the Scout will be opening locked containers and disarming alarms, earning the most skill-based experience of all your rangers.
Attribute Progression:
- Invest your first attribute point into Strength to start gaining HP points per level.
- Optionally, round up Speed and Charisma to reduce their handicaps.
- Raise Luck to 4.
- Max out Intelligence and Awareness in that particular priority.
- Dump remaining points into Luck.
Skills Progression:
- Start the game with 3 points in Sniper Rifles and 1 point each in Sneaky Shit, Lockpicking, and Animal Whisperer.
- Throughout most of the game, try to maintain between 3 to 5 unused skill points to be ready for skill checks.
- In the early game, allocate surplus points evenly.
- Stop raising Animal Whisperer at level 5.
- Pause investing into Sniper Rifles at level 7.
- Focus on Sneaky Shit and Lockpicking.
- Reaching 10th level in Sneaky Shit with the help of a skill book is your biggest combat priority.
- Reaching 10th level Lockpicking with a skill book is a must for the late game, as there are no bonus trinkets to help open treasure chests.
- After maxing Sneaky Shit and Lockpicking, max out Sniper Rifles.
- Remaining points can be invested into Mechanics to take the Structural Weakness perk.
Perks Progression (by Level 25):
- By level 25, you will have enough perks to take all unlocked skill-related perks and one additional general perk. Tag all skill perks as you unlock them.
- Early game perks: Prioritize Mark Target, Spirit Animal, and Animal Training in that order.
- General perk suggestion: Take the Healthy perk.
- Build-related perk: Lights Out should be taken as soon as you reach 10th level of Sneaky Shit skill. Reserve one perk for this.
- If you invest points into Mechanics late game, take the Structural Weakness perk.
