You'll encounter some masked thugs with scrambled profiles – don't worry too much about their randomized names like Ryan or Loay. After you take down the first one, you'll learn some neat moves: you can cling to walls for cover using the same input as a perfect dodge, and the attack button does finishing moves. If you need to crouch without cover, just click in the left stick. The game mentions you can't really lose during this tutorial, even with Permadeath enabled, so focus on learning the ropes.

A big part of the game is QuickHack. Tapping the hack button performs a preset action, like opening doors or setting off non-lethal traps. Holding the button down brings up more options, including the Attract function to lure enemies into those traps. You can even use cameras to extend your line of sight for hacking, and if you're in a room with a Closed Circuit Terminal, you can leap between cameras to get a better view. Eventually, you'll need to physically interact with this terminal, whether you sneak past enemies or fight them.

It becomes clear that someone is trying to frame DedSec for a bombing using RDX Nitrogen canisters and leaving DedSec symbols behind. You'll need to rush to the ground floor to find the detonator.

Once you reach the House of Commons, you'll find it rigged with explosives. Your AI buddy, Bagley, will help defuse the bomb digitally, but you need to survive an ambush from more masked mercs. You have access to non-lethal traps, fire extinguishers, and now, lethal firearms. Keep an eye on Bagley's defusing progress; his range is tied to your operative, so you'll have a limited window to return to the detonator before it resets.

Even after defusing the bomb, you'll discover other areas are at risk. You'll need to head to the roof to stop the main threat while your DedSec allies are attacked at a remote base. To get to the Rooftop Antenna, you'll need to hack a nearby room to download an Access Key for a locked Electronic Door. You can also use your Right Stick click to scan through walls and hijack objects like cameras that aren't in your line of sight. After dealing with one last group of hostiles, you can head upstairs to the transmitter.

The mastermind, an anonymous hologram called "Zero-Day," is revealed. Dalton tragically doesn't survive this encounter, leaving DedSec framed and needing to rebuild their resistance. This sets the stage for the rest of the game.

Next up is Restart DedSec. You'll be playing as Sabine Brandt, the sole DedSec survivor after the bombings. Your goal is to infiltrate Blume's Data Centre in Camden to see if their new surveillance state can help you find allies to rebuild DedSec London and fight back against the mysterious villains.

You'll start by controlling a camera. From there, you can profile a Spiderbot or hijack it. You'll need to jump onto a convenient Spiderbot flap to access the ctOS data clusters. After listening to the "Crypto-King" and activating the clusters, you can hack into the city and choose one of fifteen potential operatives who might be sympathetic to DedSec. Each operative has one positive perk.

Active Perks directly impact your combat abilities or let you summon specific drones and vehicles. Passive Perks affect the game's systems, like faster downloads, quicker short hack cooldowns, bonus damage against factions, or reduced team injury and arrest times. There are also perks for taking less damage and getting clothing discounts.

While your initial choice of operative doesn't significantly impact the long-term if you plan to recruit from the streets, it's good to know that you can find other ways to get vehicles and drones later on.
