Weapon Types
While Kiryu is a master of fisticuffs, sometimes a situation calls for a little extra persuasion. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, despite its focus on bare-knuckle brawling, offers a surprising array of weapons that can turn the tide of a street fight or boss encounter. Understanding these weapon types, where to find them, and how to best use them is crucial for any Dragon of Dojima worth his salt.
Environmental Weapons
These are your bread-and-butter improvised weapons, scattered liberally throughout Kamurocho and Onomichi. They are temporary but incredibly effective for crowd control and dealing significant damage in a pinch. Kiryu will automatically pick up and use these when prompted (usually with the Circle/B button) if he's near one during combat.
- Bicycles: A classic Yakuza weapon. Grab one off the street and swing it for wide, sweeping attacks that can knock down multiple enemies. Great for clearing space. Look for them parked near shops and alleyways.
- Traffic Cones: Less damaging than a bicycle, but still useful for a quick stun or a light hit. Often found on sidewalks and construction sites.
- Street Signs/Poles: These offer good reach and decent damage. Can be ripped from their foundations in certain areas. Look for them near intersections and building entrances.
- Trash Cans: Similar to traffic cones, they provide a quick, blunt attack. Found almost everywhere.
- Motorcycles: A rare but devastating environmental weapon. If you can find one and activate a Heat Action with it, prepare for some serious damage and an impressive cinematic. Often appear during larger street brawls or specific story encounters.
- Bar Stools/Chairs: Common inside restaurants and bars. Excellent for quick, repeated strikes and can often be used to initiate a Heat Action.
Purchasable & Equipable Weapons
Unlike environmental weapons, these are items you can carry in your inventory and equip. They offer more consistent damage and durability, but often come with a cost. Remember to check your inventory regularly and equip the best option for upcoming challenges.
- Blunt Weapons:
- Baseball Bat: A reliable choice for solid, single-target damage. Can be purchased from the Don Quijote convenience store in Kamurocho (Theater Square, Nakamichi Street) for around 3,000 Yen. Also sometimes dropped by enemies wielding them.
- Metal Bat: An upgraded version of the baseball bat, offering more damage and durability. Can be found in specific substories or purchased later in the game from the Ebisu Pawn shop in Kamurocho (Shichifuku Street East) for about 7,500 Yen.
- Stun Gun: Excellent for temporarily incapacitating tougher enemies, allowing you to follow up with combos. Purchase from the Secret Shop (accessible after completing certain substories, often in a back alley near Pink Street North in Kamurocho) for around 10,000 Yen.
- Bladed Weapons:
- Kitchen Knife: Quick, low-damage attacks, but can inflict bleeding. Often dropped by thugs in alleyways or found in specific enemy encounters.
- Tanto: A short Japanese dagger, offering faster attacks and better damage than a kitchen knife. Can be purchased from the Ebisu Pawn shop in Onomichi (Shishido Street) for approximately 8,000 Yen.
- Katana: The most powerful bladed weapon, capable of significant damage and wide sweeps. Extremely rare, often found as a reward for completing challenging substories or defeating specific boss-level enemies. Keep an eye out for the "Dragon Sword" variant, which boasts even higher stats.
- Firearms (Limited Use):
- Pistol: While Kiryu isn't a gun-toting protagonist, pistols can occasionally be picked up from defeated enemies or found in specific story segments. They offer ranged damage but have very limited ammunition. Use them strategically against distant threats or to interrupt powerful enemy attacks. You cannot purchase or carry these outside of specific contexts.
- Shotgun: Even rarer than pistols, shotguns are devastating at close range. Similar to pistols, they are usually only available during specific set-piece battles or as temporary pickups.
Weapon Durability & Repair
Most equipable weapons have a durability meter. As you use a weapon, its durability decreases. Once it hits zero, the weapon breaks and becomes unusable. You can repair weapons at the Ebisu Pawn shops in both Kamurocho and Onomichi. The cost of repair is usually a fraction of the weapon's original purchase price. Prioritize repairing your most powerful and expensive weapons to ensure you always have a strong option available.
- Kamurocho Ebisu Pawn: Shichifuku Street East.
- Onomichi Ebisu Pawn: Shishido Street.
Pro Tip: Consider carrying a few cheaper, durable weapons like the Metal Bat for general street encounters, saving your high-damage, low-durability weapons like the Katana for boss fights or particularly tough groups of enemies.
