Learn how to take down enemy tanks in Battlefield 1942 using grenades and smart movement, even when things go wrong. A funny guide from Wuulfe Sylvanshadow.

Hey there! So, you've found yourself in a bit of a pickle, huh? Wuulfe Sylvanshadow here, and I've got a story about tackling a tank in Battlefield 1942 that's… well, it's a learning experience, let's say. It’s a good reminder that sometimes even the best-laid plans go sideways, but there’s always a way to try and salvage the situation.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
So, I wasn't really feeling the whole team thing, right? Hopped in a jeep and just drove up the closest path I could find. Turns out, I zoomed right past an enemy tank. Naturally, it shot at me. I did a quick U-turn and sped away – couldn't even repair because I was playing Assault, which was a bit of a bummer. I kept going up this really steep hill.
  2. 2
From the top of this hill, I got this crazy idea to just fly down it and jump over a small ridge in front of me. My goal? To end up behind our main base. I went for it, hit the ridge, and landed pretty close to an enemy tank. This tank was hidden behind some trees, blasting away at our base.
  3. 3
Now, I wasn't about to let that slide. My jeep was toast, and this tank was right there. I'm usually an Engineer, which would have made this easier, but I was Assault. Still, I figured, why not? I tossed all three of my grenades under the tank. Boom, boom, boom… nope, didn't even scratch it.
  4. 4
The tank, understandably, was a bit confused about what was happening behind it. It started turning its turret to the left. I circled around it, going to its right. The turret stopped when it spotted the jeep and promptly blew it up. Great, my ride is gone.
  5. 5
So now the tank's facing backward, and I'm in front of it. The turret swung right, so I went left. Once I got to the back again, just to do *something*, I emptied my entire clip into the back of the turret. What else could I do? The turret swung around again, and I dropped into a prone position. It spun around twice and faced forward again.
  6. 6
I was getting impatient, so I blasted it with my machine gun and pistol. I even tried to knife it! The turret swung again, and I ran with it, making a full circle. I dropped into prone right next to the tread.
  7. 7
You might be expecting some epic finish where I fearlessly took it down with just my knife. What actually happened? The tank shifted about a foot, and ran me over. I had low health to begin with, so… yeah. *Sigh*.
Tips
  • Tanks are tough! Don't expect a few grenades or a clip of assault rifle ammo to do much damage to them.
  • If you're playing Assault and get caught out like this, your best bet is usually to run and find an Engineer or a vehicle that can actually damage tanks.
  • Trying to circle-strafe a tank can be risky, as you saw! They have a wide turning radius, but if you get too close or they track you, you're in trouble.
  • If you do manage to get behind a tank, aim for the engine or tracks if possible, though different game modes and versions might have specific weak spots. In this case, it seems even the back wasn't enough.
  • Don't get discouraged! Even when things go wrong, sometimes the most memorable moments in Battlefield 1942 come from the chaos.

Joe's Comment: Yup, gotta love this game. Even though this guy was apparently a total moron and didn't know where you were in the first place, you shouldn't have unloaded an entire clip on him, it did nothing to him. Pretty funny story though.
