Master the Tobruk map in Battlefield 1942! Learn an unfair Axis advantage using the Wespe and how the Allies can counter with artillery and anti-tank tactics.

Alright, let's talk Tobruk. The author of this guide is still working on it, but they've shared a pretty sweet strategy for the Axis side that's almost unfair. Plus, there's a decent counter for the Allies.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Axis Strategy (Almost Unfair Advantage): Grab the Wespe artillery vehicle before anyone else. Head up the hill behind your starting position (look towards the 6 o'clock on the mini-map). Follow the path until you're behind the machine gun emplacement on the far side of the clearing. This spot is marked on the mini-map as the top-left of box D6. From here, you can easily support the push on the first set of bunkers. With a scout spotting for you, you can basically bomb the entire map from this super-safe position. The enemy will have a really tough time hitting you because most shells will fly over your head. Only the gun barrel of the Wespe will be visible above the sandbag wall. Best of all, there's an ammo box right there, so you'll resupply automatically.
  2. 2
Allied Counter Strategy: Finding the perfect spot for your Priest artillery is tricky, but the best place is between the second line of bunkers, right next to an ammo box and behind the curved sandbag wall. Be careful, though! If the Axis quickly capture the first bunker line, you'll need to retreat to the northern part of town and get a scout to help you target. To stop the Axis from attacking your base from the rear, have one anti-tank soldier hide at the top of the hill near the switchback. When an enemy tank comes up, slide down the hill and shoot it from behind a couple of times right before it makes that sharp turn. This makes it hard for the tank's gunner to keep aim.
  3. 3
Backup Allied Strategy: Mine both paths leading into the town immediately. Then, place explosives on the repair depot to catch any tanks trying to get through.
  4. 4
General Combat: Outside of these specific strategies, most of the fighting on Tobruk is standard desert combat.
Tips
  • The Wespe's position is incredibly strong because it's hard for enemies to hit you, and you have automatic resupply.
  • For the Allies, coordinating with a scout for artillery targeting is key if the Axis push hard.
  • Anti-tank soldiers can be very effective by ambushing tanks on the switchback path.
  • Don't forget to mine the approaches and use explosives on key objectives like the repair depot.
