Learn how to survive the 'Wolves at the Door' Hamlet event in Darkest Dungeon. Get tips on enemy types, Vvulf's tactics, and valuable Ancestral loot.

Alright, so you've been playing Darkest Dungeon for a bit, and you might notice some weird town events popping up. One of the big ones, and honestly one of the most dangerous, is the 'Wolves at the Door' event. This isn't just some random skirmish; it's a full-blown Plot Quest where the Brigands decide to raid your Hamlet itself. It usually kicks off around week 51, so start bracing yourself!

Walkthrough
  1. 1
The Setup: When the 'Wolves at the Door' town event triggers, you'll see a prompt about a Brigand raid. This is your cue to select your Hamlet as the mission location. Don't be fooled by the 'Short' mission tag; this is a difficult L6 encounter. The big draw here is the chance to snag some seriously good Ancestral loot, and if you manage to beat Vvulf, you'll get his Tassel trophy, which is a nice boost (+20% DMG, +10 ACC vs Marked, +5% CRT vs size 2).
  2. 2
The Map and Enemies: Expect a circular map every time. The regular mobs you'll face are Brigands, Infamous Brigands, simple Brigands, Raving Madmen, and Outlaws. You'll also run into Harrying/Rabid Gnashers, which are beasts with higher resistances, especially to blight. The key thing to remember is that these enemies have random resistances, usually between 15-45%, so plan your attacks accordingly. Make sure you pack plenty of bandages and definitely a good number of shovels – you'll need 'em.
  3. 3
The Main Threat - Vvulf: The real challenge is Vvulf and his infamous Barrel 'o Bombs. This thing has massive resistances (200% normally, 300% when moving) and it's not messing around. Vvulf will periodically spawn more enemies and, more importantly, unleash devastating bomb attacks. A bomb will literally tick down on one of your heroes, and when it explodes, it does huge damage.
  4. 4
The Strategy: The game will tell you to retreat if things get hairy, but I'd advise against it if you're close to finishing Vvulf off. The potential for Ancestral items is just too good to pass up. Focus on managing Vvulf's bombs and the adds he throws at you. Try to burst him down when you have an opening.
  5. 5
The Reward (and a Bonus!): Successfully completing this mission nets you valuable Ancestral items. Plus, beating Vvulf often triggers another town event, 'A Day Long Awaited,' which means you'll get six extra recruits in your Stage Coach – a nice little bonus after a tough fight!
Tips
  • Bring heroes with good stress healing and damage-dealing capabilities. You'll need to manage both your heroes' health and stress, as well as take down tough enemies quickly.
  • Don't underestimate the Gnashers; their blight resistance can be a pain.
  • Prioritize dealing with the Barrel 'o Bombs when it's ticking on a hero. It's usually better to take the hit from a regular enemy than to let a bomb detonate.
  • Keep an eye on your map; the circular layout can be disorienting, but knowing where Vvulf is will help you plan your turns.
