Boss: The Nexus

Learn how to defeat The Nexus, a massive necromorph, in Dead Space 3. This guide covers its attacks, weak points, and strategies for survival.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• The Nexus has a pulsating yellow heart that is exposed after shooting its eggs.
• The Nexus has glowing bulbs around its mouth that must be shot when it attempts to suck Isaac in.
• Hive Minds have three tentacles that are their weak points.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: The Nexus attacks with massive claws (dodge) and fires red projectiles that hatch into feeders. Destroy these eggs, then shoot the exposed yellow heart.
2. Phase 2: The Nexus lowers its head and attempts to suck Isaac in. Shoot the glowing bulbs around its mouth to stop this. Repeat Phase 1 and 2 tactics until mouth tentacles are destroyed.
3. Phase 3 (Nexus Interior): After a scene, you'll be in zero gravity. Fight three Hive Minds, which are wall-mounted enemies with three tentacles each. They fire homing projectiles. Focus on one Hive Mind at a time, severing its tentacles while dodging or shooting down their projectiles.

Strategy:

• For The Nexus, prioritize dodging its claw attacks.
• Destroy the red eggs quickly to prevent feeders from spawning.
• Maximize damage on the exposed heart when available.
• When The Nexus attempts to suck you in, focus fire on the glowing bulbs around its mouth.
• For Hive Minds, try to focus on one at a time to sever its tentacles. Be aware of projectiles from other Hive Minds.
• Use the boost button to dodge or jump across gaps during the zero-gravity section.
• Use Stasis on falling debris during the rappelling section to create more time to move.
• Be prepared for tougher, blackish versions of Slashers and Waster enemies in the cave section.
• Remember to hit the button prompt that appears after defeating the Hive Minds.

• Defeating the Hive Minds earns the achievement/trophy ‘Intestinal fortitude’.
