Unlock the secrets to DJ Hero's GHWR2A challenges. Learn strategies for High Score, Hit Chords, Tap Notes, Sustain Time, and more to achieve Diamond ratings.
This guide provides an overview of the various Star Challenges in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and how to complete them. For the best chance at achieving Diamond ratings on challenges, it is recommended to play songs on Expert difficulty.
Note: All songs feature a Power Challenge, which is always listed first and is separate from the Star Challenge Stars. Therefore, Power Challenges are not included in the main list of Challenges.
High Score Challenges: Each song has a high score challenge for every instrument and band setup (Standard and Non-Standard). Hitting approximately 90% of notes and maintaining a high multiplier (x4/x8) is crucial for Gold, Platinum, and Diamond targets.
Hit Chords Challenges: Primarily a Guitar challenge, occasionally appearing for Bass. Chords require holding two or more frets. Expert difficulty offers enough chords to achieve Diamond, but hitting nearly all of them is usually necessary.
Color/Open/Kick/Drum Accent/Drum Sustain/Spoken Notes Challenges: These require hitting a specific number of indicated notes. Guitar/Bass challenges exclude Orange notes, with a few exceptions for Blue notes. Drums exclude Blue notes but include some Orange notes. Open Notes are Bass-exclusive, and Kick Notes are Drum-exclusive. Drum Accent notes require more force, and Drum Sustain notes are indicated by waves on the highway. Spoken notes correspond to Vocal notes.
Tap Notes/Hit HOPO Challenges: Both require hitting specified notes without strumming. HOPO (Hammer-On/Pull-Off) challenges are more common than Tap Note challenges. Achieving Diamond on either requires hitting almost all specified notes.
Sustain Time Challenges: Focus on holding Sustain notes (long notes usable with the Whammy Bar) for as long as possible.
Alt Strum Challenges: Require alternating strumming (down, up, down, etc.) for consecutive notes. Notes that are normally Tap or Hammer-On/Pull-Off notes do not count towards these challenges.
Strum Up/Down Challenges: Simple challenges requiring players to hit notes by strumming either up or down. Similar to Alt Strum Challenges, Tap or Hammer-On/Pull-Off notes do not count.
Hit Notes: Varies by play mode. Solo play requires hitting as many notes as possible in designated sections (e.g., solos). Band play requires a cumulative total from Guitar, Bass, and Drums.
Note/Phrase/Band Streak Challenges: Instrument-dependent. Note Streak Challenges (Guitar, Drums, Bass) require achieving a high note streak, often exceeding the x4 multiplier. Phrase Streaks are Vocal-exclusive, requiring 'Excellent' scores on consecutive phrases. Band Streaks combine individual Note Streaks from Guitarists, Bassists, and Drummers.
Star Power Score Challenges: Earn points from notes hit while Star Power is active. With a x8 multiplier, single notes are worth 400 points, allowing points to accumulate quickly.
Multiplier Time Challenges: Maintain a multiplier of x4 (single instrument) or x5 (band) or higher for a set duration, usually under 2 minutes. Streaks can be regained if lost. Activating Star Power at a x2 multiplier can extend time by reaching a x4 multiplier.
Bank Star Power Challenges: Fill the Star Power Meter a specified number of times. Band targets are higher than single instrument targets. Diamond requires hitting almost all Star Power Phrases.
Star Power Relay Challenges: Band-exclusive. Star Power must be active among band members at all times. The easiest way to achieve Diamond is for players to activate Star Power sequentially as it depletes.
Whammy Time Challenges: Guitar-exclusive. Requires using the Whammy Bar on Sustains within solos or marked sections.
Rock Out Challenges: Guitar and Bass challenges requiring players to physically shake the guitar while Star Power is active. Shaking during Sustains or quiet sections can easily accumulate time.
