A comprehensive guide and walkthrough for Dragon Quest Builders on PC, covering basic gameplay, chapters, monster lists, and achievements. Updated for PC version changes.

Welcome to my Dragon Quest Builders guide.

After playing Dragon Quest 3 HD2D, I felt like I wanted to replay the Builders game. So I grabbed both of them on Steam on sale. I already owned them on PS4 and Switch, but I heard that they had changed the experience somewhat, so it was worth playing fresh. Then I noticed there are no guides for this game, except for speedrunning. Which, mind you, works well too, but why not have a more casual, comfy experience with it.

So here I am, fresh out of building a guide and starting on a new one. At least this time I'm not attempting to do it while the game is hot, it's been out for... like 8 years or something. But hey, gotta love our Dragon Quest games.

I actually enjoy writing these guides as I play, since there's lots of 'wish I knew this sooner' going on. So putting it down in text allows me to 'insert' it back where it would make the most sense to do those tasks. It doesn't help me for the current playthrough, but if it helps other people later, it's worth it still!

Some of the more notable changes since PS4 is the removal of the 'time trial' for each chapter. On PS4, each chapter had a requirement to unlock everything of beating it under a certain amount of in game days. It was possible to do it on the first go (I've done it myself), but it admittedly meant rushing through the chapters and never sleeping. The idea was to speed through the story, and then you could load back your finished chapter and do the rest, without the time constraint.

That was removed on the Switch version, and is not in the PC version either, so we can actually focus on trying to do things a bit more efficiently as well. This guide was written with that in mind. Sure, you can do it casual, but it's nice to be able to plan on the 'I wish I knew this before' kind of things too.

So this guide should work for all versions in theory, but if you're still on PS4, there's the speedrunning aspect of it to consider, as failing it essentially means you need to replay the entire chapter again. Bummer really.

Another of the changes on PC is that they removed the durability, so you don't have to worry about your weapons and armors breaking down anymore, a QOL that makes it on par with Dragon Quest Builders 2. They also changed how the inventory works, improved on the Colossal Chest in space and convenience, and put the hammer as a dedicated button instead of having to switch weapons. All very nice changes.

Terra Incognita also received major changes, with the Sabrecub mount, but also the Flying Carpet, and using pixels as a current to get some unlimited materials among other things.

Achievements

The guide will cover all achievements, but some of them are not related to the story, they instead appear at specific milestones. So listing them here since there's no specific point you get them. Note that these do carry between chapters, they do not need to be made within a single one.
