Hotkeys and Shortcuts

Mastering hotkeys and shortcuts in Endless Space is paramount for efficient empire management and strategic dominance. While the game offers a robust UI, direct keyboard commands can significantly reduce micromanagement time, allowing you to focus on the grander strategic picture. This section details essential hotkeys, categorized for ease of learning and application.

Global Navigation & Information

  • Spacebar: Ends your current turn. This is arguably the most used hotkey. Ensure all critical actions (system upgrades, fleet movements, research selections) are complete before advancing.
  • M: Toggles the Galaxy Map view. Quickly switch between the strategic overview and the detailed system view.
  • Tab: Cycles through your active fleets. Useful for quickly locating and issuing orders to multiple fleets without manually clicking each one.
  • Ctrl + F: Opens the Fleet List. Provides a comprehensive overview of all your fleets, their locations, and current orders.
  • Ctrl + S: Opens the System List. A vital tool for managing your planets, allowing you to quickly jump to any colonized system for production queues, population management, or defense checks.
  • Ctrl + R: Opens the Research Tree. Essential for monitoring your technological progress and selecting new research objectives.
  • Ctrl + T: Opens the Trade Routes screen. Manage your trade network, identify profitable routes, and deploy trade convoys.
  • Ctrl + D: Opens the Diplomacy screen. Engage with other factions, propose treaties, declare war, or check diplomatic standings.
  • Ctrl + E: Opens the Empire Management screen. Provides an aggregated view of your empire's economy, population, and overall health.
  • F1-F8: These function keys are often bound to quick-access panels or specific game information screens. While their exact functions can sometimes be customized or vary slightly with patches, they typically include screens like the Empire Overview, Research, Diplomacy, and Trade. Experiment to find their current assignments.

System & Fleet Management

  • Left-Click (System): Selects a system. If already selected, it opens the System Management panel.
  • Right-Click (System): Deselects the current system or fleet.
  • Left-Click (Fleet): Selects a fleet. If already selected, it opens the Fleet Orders panel.
  • Right-Click (Empty Space): Moves the selected fleet to that location.
  • Right-Click (System with Fleet Selected): Orders the selected fleet to move to or attack that system.
  • Shift + Left-Click (Multiple Fleets): Selects multiple fleets for group commands.
  • Ctrl + Left-Click (Multiple Systems/Fleets): Adds or removes individual systems or fleets from a multi-selection.
  • P: Opens the Production Queue for the currently selected system. Quickly add or reorder construction projects.
  • U: Initiates a System Upgrade for the currently selected system, if available.
  • G: Opens the Ground Battle screen if a ground invasion is underway in the selected system.

Camera & View Controls

  • W, A, S, D: Pans the camera across the galaxy map.
  • Q, E: Rotates the camera.
  • Mouse Wheel Up/Down: Zooms in and out of the galaxy map. Zooming out fully will often transition to the strategic galaxy view, while zooming in on a system will show its planets and orbital structures.
  • Home: Centers the camera on your capital system. An invaluable shortcut for quickly returning to your core territory.
  • End: Centers the camera on the last system where an event occurred (e.g., a battle, a new colonization).

By integrating these hotkeys into your gameplay, you'll find yourself navigating the vastness of Endless Space with unprecedented speed and precision, allowing for more reactive decision-making and a smoother, more enjoyable experience.
