Mt. Ordeals - Entrance
Follow the path and you'll encounter some flames, which Palom takes care of with the greatest of ease. It's really too bad that Porom simply gives him a *thwack*. I miss the old days of *POW*, but that's just me. Watch the scene that ensues.
After the scene is complete, continue following the path, skipping the steps and continuing on to pick up the POTION. Now go back and up the steps, going a little bit to the east to pick up another POTION. Continue onwards and upwards to head into the next area.
Mt. Ordeals - Trail
Follow the path until a familiar face appears. After another puny *thwack* from Porom, Tellah will rejoin your team. Tellah will also show up in Slot 4, which is in the front row. You'll want to move him to the back row so he doesn't take as much damage. After you're done, here's how your party lineup should look:
Palom
Cecil
Porom

Tellah
Continue on to the next area (it's to the east).
Mt. Ordeals - Crossing
Head west and skip the first path north and continue on to pick up an ETHER. Backtrack and head north along the path and continue on and up the next two sets of steps. Make your way back west, but don't forget to jag south and pick up the other ETHER. Continue west to the next area.
Mt. Ordeals - Summit
Head north but sidetrack east to rest and Save. Continue on north and you'll run into a boss:
| #161 - Scarmiglione | |
| Level | 24 |
| HP | 1200 |
| EXP | 3690 |
| Gil | 2500 |
| Steal | None |
| Drops | None |
| Weakness | Fire, Holy, Cure |
| Resistance | Dark |
| Absorb | Ice |
Scarmiglione is accompanied by four Skullnants, so you'll have to take care of them as well. Scarmiglione will eventually shout out a command and the Skullnants will each cast Drain on a character. Scarmiglione can also use Counter: Thunder against any action directed towards him.
I suggest that everyone who isn't Palom dedicated to healing duty. That's not a joke at all. Have Cecil use Potions, Tellah use Cura and Porom should beef up your party's defenses with Protect and Shell.
Palom should use Bluff and then cast Fira on all enemies (you can select all enemies by attempting to select behind the rear enemy). This should instantly take care of the Skullnants and deal a chunk of damage to Scarmiglione. If you Bluff and cast Fira on him, it'll finish the battle.
After the battle is done, I highly suggest you go back to the nearby Save Point and use it (to rest AND Save). I suggest disabling Counter from Cecil just so he doesn't accidentally counter and inflict more status effects.
SWITCH YOUR LINEUP before crossing the bridge. You can do this using the Party option and then use select Invert to switch your entire party lineup. This will make the back row the front row and the front row the back.
When you're all ready to move on, continue west across the bridge and prepare to face:
| #162 - Scarmiglione | |
| Level | 25 |
| HP | 7046 |
| EXP | 28184 |
| Gil | 3000 |
| Steal | None |
| Drops | None |
| Weakness | Fire, Holy, Cure |
| Resistance | Dark |
| Absorb | Ice, Earth |
This battle will start out as a Back Attack; you should have countered this already by switching your lineup.
Scarmiglione has a few nasty attacks; he uses Counter: Gas to inflict a number of status effects. However, he only seems to use Counter: Gas as a counter to Black Magic attacks. Scarmiglione also uses Counter: Cursed Elegy as a counter to physical attacks (it casts Slow on your entire team). Also, Scarmiglione's physical attack can slap you with Blind.
Since Scarmiglione uses Counter: Gas to Black Magic, you can use curative items and spells on him and they'll cause damage. Have Tellah and Porom c
