Learn how to defeat the Antlion in Final Fantasy IV, including its weaknesses, resistances, and the best strategies for Cecil, Rydia, and Edward.
Alright, let's talk about the monsters you'll run into in the Antlion's Den. Keep an eye out for these guys:
| Monster | Lv | HP | EXP | Gil | Weakness | Steal |
| Adamantoise | 18 | 190 | 665 | 24 | Ice | Antidote |
| Yellow Jelly | 17 | 60 | 238 | 18 | Thunder | Potion |
| Domovoi | 18 | 100 | 300 | 14 | None | Potion |
| Basilisk | 18 | 140 | 420 | 9 | Ice | Gold Needle |
| Leshy | 19 | 130 | 480 | 10 | Fire | Potion |
Oh, and remember those Rainbow Puddings I mentioned? Yellow Jellies can drop those too, so keep an eye out!
Antlion's Den - B1
Okay, head west across that little bridge and grab the SPIDER SILK. Then, take the nearby stairs and jag east to find a POTION. Keep heading south, staying close to the west wall, and then go around to snag a TENT and another POTION. Once you've got those, backtrack to the entrance.
Back at the entrance, make your way southeast and go up some steps. Continue north and grab the GOLD NEEDLE. Head south again, down some other stairs, then go north up the middle path to pick up a POTION. Keep going all the way south and down the stairs to B2.
Antlion's Den - B2
Now, head south and just follow the path. When you see a path going southeast, take it east into a small room. Inside, you'll find a LAMIA HARP for Edward. Seriously, equip that right away – it's a big upgrade!
After grabbing the harp, head back out and continue south for an ANTARCTIC WIND. Once you have that, follow the path north and go into a doorway that leads you back to B1.
Antlion's Den - B1 (Again)
You'll probably finish mapping this area out now. Head into the door you see. Inside, you'll find an EMERGENCY EXIT, an ETHER, and a PHOENIX DOWN. There's also a Save Point in here, so feel free to rest up and save your game before heading back to B2.
Antlion's Den - B2 (Again)
When you come back down to B2, circle north and grab the POTION in the chest. Then, head southwest and go around to pick up another SPIDER SILK.
Head back southeast to where you found the Antarctic Wind. Keep going west, and you'll see an exit to the south. But before you take it, go west and up some steps. You can go east to find an ICE ROD and west to find a SHADOWBLADE. If Cecil isn't already using it (and he should be if you've been following along), equip that SHADOWBLADE immediately!
Now, backtrack and take that southern exit.
Antlion's Nest
There's not much to do here except get ready for the boss. Heal up and then head straight south to face the Antlion!

The Antlion's physical attack can be pretty rough, but its real danger is its 'Counter: Pincers' attack. How it uses this depends on the color of its eyes. When its eyes are white, it counters physical attacks; when they're red, it counters magic. Once you notice the eye color, this fight becomes much easier.
The Antlion's eyes start out white. So, have Cecil use Potions or Defend, and Rydia should cast Blizzard. When the Antlion's eyes turn red, switch Cecil to Darkness and have him attack, while Rydia focuses on healing.
Edward is actually super useful here. You can have him use Salve to heal the whole party with a Potion's full effect, or use Life's Anthem for a Regen-like effect.
With this strategy, you should be able to take down the Antlion pretty easily. You might even get lucky and defeat it before it uses Counter: Pincers! After you win, you'll automatically get a SAND PEARL.
Since you found the Emergency Exit back in the cave, use it to leave quickly. If not, you'll have to walk all the way back out.
To get back to Kaipo, you don't need to go through the cave again. Hop on the Hovercraft and head back towards Damcyan Castle, then go southwest from there. You'll find more rocks to go over, which will lead you towards Kaipo. Once you hit land, head southeast.
