Tools

Jin Sakai's arsenal in Ghost of Tsushima extends beyond his katana and bow to a variety of tactical tools that can turn the tide of battle. These Ghost weapons are essential for stealth, crowd control, and creating openings for devastating attacks. Mastering the use of these tools is key to becoming the legendary Ghost of Tsushima.

The primary tools available to Jin are:

  • Kunai: These small, throwable blades are excellent for dealing quick damage to individual enemies or for interrupting their actions. They are particularly useful for silent ranged assassinations or for staggering enemies to set up a melee follow-up. Kunai can be upgraded to deal more damage and inflict bleeding effects.
  • Smoke Bombs: A crucial tool for stealth and evasion. When thrown, a Smoke Bomb creates a cloud of smoke that disorients enemies, allowing Jin to disappear from their sight. This is perfect for escaping a losing fight, repositioning, or setting up a surprise assassination.
  • Sticky Bombs: These explosive devices deal significant area-of-effect damage, making them ideal for clearing out groups of enemies or damaging heavily armored foes. They have a short fuse, so precise placement is key.
  • Wind Chimes: A non-lethal tool used to create a distraction. Throwing a Wind Chime will emit a sound that can lure enemies away from their posts, allowing Jin to sneak past or isolate targets for silent takedowns.
  • Caltradrops: These are small, throwable devices that, when triggered, release a cloud of poison gas, damaging and weakening enemies caught within the radius.
  • Firecrackers: Similar to Wind Chimes, these create a loud noise to distract enemies, drawing their attention away from Jin's position.

These tools can be acquired and upgraded throughout the game. Upgrades often increase their effectiveness, such as adding a bleeding effect to Kunai or increasing the radius of Smoke Bombs. You can equip up to two different tools at a time, allowing for tactical flexibility in combat and stealth scenarios.

The strategic use of these tools, combined with Jin's swordsmanship and archery skills, allows for a dynamic and versatile combat system. Experimenting with different combinations of tools and weapons is encouraged to find the playstyle that best suits the player.
