Embrace Both Samurai & Ghost Playstyles
Ghost of Tsushima encourages a dynamic approach. While direct combat as a Samurai is often necessary, stealth as the Ghost can clear out entire encampments without a single alarm. Don't be afraid to switch between the two. Observe enemy patrols, use environmental hazards, and strike from the shadows when possible. For direct combat, mastering parries and dodges is paramount.
Prioritize Exploration & Side Content
While the main story is compelling, exploring Tsushima is incredibly rewarding. Discovering Shrines, Hot Springs, Bamboo Strikes, and Fox Dens will grant you valuable upgrades to your health, Resolve, and Technique Points. Side quests often provide unique gear, resources, and expand the lore of the island.
Master Stances Early
There are four main combat stances: Stone, Water, Wind, and Moon. Each is effective against a specific enemy type. Stone Stance is for Swordsmen, Water for Shieldmen, Wind for Spearmen, and Moon for Brutes. Switching stances quickly in combat is crucial for breaking enemy defenses and dealing significant damage. Practice this often.
Collect Resources Constantly
You'll need various resources like Supplies, Iron, Steel, Linen, and Leather to upgrade your weapons and armor. Always loot fallen enemies, scavenge abandoned camps, and gather materials from the environment. Don't ignore flowers, as they are used for dye and cosmetic upgrades.
Utilize Guiding Wind
The Guiding Wind is your best friend for navigation. Swipe up on the touchpad to summon it, and it will direct you towards your current objective. You can also set custom waypoints on the map, and the wind will guide you there. This allows for a more immersive experience without relying on a mini-map.
Upgrade Your Katana First
Your Sakai Katana is your primary weapon. Prioritize upgrading it at Swordsmiths in liberated towns. Increased damage will make all combat encounters easier. After that, focus on your Tanto for faster stealth kills and then your Bows.
