The Four Core Stances
Combat stances are fundamental to success in Ghost of Tsushima. Each stance is designed to counter a specific enemy archetype, allowing you to break their guard and deal damage effectively. Switching stances quickly is a skill you'll need to master.
- Stone Stance: Acquired early. Best against Swordsmen. Focuses on quick, precise strikes to break their guard. Use Triangle attacks to stagger.
- Water Stance: Acquired by observing or defeating Mongol leaders. Best against Shieldmen. Uses powerful, flowing attacks to bypass or break shields. Hold Triangle for a flurry of strikes.
- Wind Stance: Acquired by observing or defeating Mongol leaders. Best against Spearmen. Utilizes kicks and wide swings to disrupt their reach and open them up for attacks. Hold Triangle for a powerful kick.
- Moon Stance: Acquired by observing or defeating Mongol leaders. Best against Brutes. Employs heavy, sweeping attacks to stagger and knock down larger enemies. Hold Triangle for a spinning attack.
You can unlock upgrades for each stance in the Techniques menu, enhancing their effectiveness and unlocking new attacks. Always be aware of the enemy types you're facing and switch stances accordingly using the D-Pad.
