Learn how to edit game settings for Slayer, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Oddball, and Race in Halo: The Master Chief Collection to customize your multiplayer experience.
You can change the rules of multiplayer games in Halo: The Master Chief Collection by editing game settings. To access these options, navigate to Multiplayer, then select Edit Gametypes. From there, choose the multiplayer type you wish to modify (Slayer, CTF, etc.) to access a list of customizable settings.
Change Name: This option allows you to rename the gametype itself, not your username.
Game Options: This section provides access to settings for Capture the Flag, Race, Oddball, King of the Hill, and Slayer.
Capture the Flag
- Assault: If set to 'no', you capture the enemy's flag. If set to 'yes', you must capture your own flag and return it to the enemy base to score.
- Single Flag: When 'off' (default), each base has its own flag. When 'on', there is only one flag on the map, and offense/defense roles alternate every 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes.
- Flag Must Reset: If 'on', the flag returns to its base after a set time. If 'off', you can return your flag by walking over it.
- Flag at Home to Score: If 'no', you can score by taking the enemy flag even if your flag is not at your base. If 'yes', your flag must be at your base to score.
- Captures to Win: Sets the number of captures required to win, with options for 1, 3, 5, 10, or 15 captures.
- Time Limit: Sets the duration of the game, with options including 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45 minutes, or no time limit. If time expires, the team with more captures wins.
King of the Hill
- Moving Hill: 'No' keeps the hill stationary. 'Yes' makes the hill move to random locations.
- Score to win: Sets the total time required to accumulate in the hill to win, with options for 1, 2, 5, 10, or 15 minutes.
- Team Play: 'No' means it's a free-for-all. 'Yes' enables teams.
- Time Limit: Sets the game duration, with options for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45 minutes, or no time limit. If the hill isn't controlled for the required time before the timer runs out, the game ends.
Slayer
- Death Bonus: If 'on', killing someone increases your speed. If 'off', your speed remains constant.
- Kill in Order: If 'off', you can kill any opponent. If 'on', you must kill a designated target for the kill to count.
- Kill Penalty: If 'on', killing someone slows you down. If 'off', your speed is unaffected by kills.
- Kills to Win: Sets the number of kills required to win, with options for 5, 10, 15, 25, or 50 kills.
- Team Play: Enables or disables teams.
- Time Limit: Sets the game duration, with options for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, or 45 minutes. If the kill limit isn't reached by the time limit, the game ends.
Oddball
- Trait with Ball: Grants the player holding the skull special abilities like invisibility, increased damage, or damage resistance.
- Trait without Ball: Grants players without the skull abilities like increased damage, damage resistance, or invisibility.
- Speed with Ball: Adjusts the carrier's speed to slow, normal, or fast.
- Ball Type: Options include 'Normal' (hold skull for a time), 'Reverse Tag' (first to kill becomes 'it' and must remain 'it' for a duration), and 'Juggernaut' (first to kill scores, and can be dethroned by another player).
- Ball Spawn Count: Determines the number of skulls on the map, ranging from 1 to 16.
- Minutes/Points to Win: Adjusts the time or points needed to win for Juggernaut, Oddball, and Reverse Tag modes.
