Understanding Development Traits

Every player in Franchise mode has a 'Development Trait' that dictates how quickly they earn and spend XP:

  • Normal: Slowest XP gain, slowest attribute progression.
  • Star: Moderate XP gain, moderate progression.
  • Superstar: Fast XP gain, fast progression, unlocks Superstar Abilities.
  • X-Factor: Fastest XP gain, fastest progression, unlocks X-Factor Abilities and Superstar Abilities.

You can upgrade their development trait by achieving specific season goals (e.g., 1,000 rushing yards for a RB, 10 sacks for a DE). Prioritize giving opportunities to players with higher development traits, as they offer the best return on investment for your XP.

Strategic XP Spending

When spending XP, consider the player's archetype, your team's scheme, and the player's current weaknesses. For example:

  • Young QB: Focus on Throw Accuracy (Short/Mid/Deep) first, then Throw Power and Awareness.
  • Rookie OL: Prioritize Run Blocking and Pass Blocking, then Strength and Awareness.
  • Developing CB: Invest in Man Coverage or Zone Coverage (depending on your scheme), Speed, and Play Recognition.

Don't spread XP too thin. Focus on making a few key attributes elite rather than making many attributes mediocre. Also, consider unlocking 'Abilities' once a player reaches Superstar or X-Factor status, as these provide significant in-game advantages.
