Complete the Piranha Plant Forest challenges in Mario Tennis Aces, including Pipe Gripe, Rapid Fire, and the Forest Monster boss fight.
After completing Bask Ruins, follow the path past the fork and on towards the left to Piranha Plant Forest. You'll meet Donkey Kong, who will refuse to let you into the jungle without proving your skill. Toad will inform you that there's a tennis court in the forest, which seems like a suitable location to prove your worth.
Pipe Gripe
Objective: Beat Donkey Kong while avoiding the Piranha Plants
Match Details: Two-game, one-set match. Difficulty: Easy
This is your first tennis match outside of the tutorial, and you're up against Donkey Kong. Use the skills and techniques you've learned to defeat him.
Be mindful of the three pipes at the net. Occasionally, a Piranha Plant will pop up from one of them, grab your ball, and spit it out in a random location, either on your side or your opponent's. Avoid these when you can, since they have the potential to catch you off guard.
This match isn't difficult to complete. Donkey Kong is a powerful hitter, but is slow. You shouldn't have any problems defeating him.
Win both games to complete this challenge.
Forest Practice Court
After completion of Pipe Gripe, you can move forward to continue the story, but you should detour to the left to participate in your first skills challenge.
Rally Challenge (Beginner)
Objective: Keep rallying until you reach 200 points. Difficulty: Easy
This is your first skills challenge. To complete this challenge, you must keep the rally alive to score points. You are awarded one point for each successful rally, with bonus points being awarded the longer you keep the rally alive. The easiest way to complete this is to simply perform Flat Shots to keep the rally going and stack up points.
Complete this challenge, then venture deeper into the forest.
Piranha Plant Habitat
You'll reach the Piranha Plant Habitat farther down the path, which also brings you to your next challenge.
Rapid Fire
Objective: Defeat 30 Piranha Plants within the time limit. Difficulty: Easy
This is a unique challenge and tests your ability to both block shots and use Zone Shots. Use Zone Shots to your advantage and target the Piranha Plants with their own fireballs. Try not to get hit by a fireball, as doing so will subtract 5 seconds from your time limit. Some of the Piranha Plants will used a charged up fireball which must be precisely blocked to avoid damaging your racket. Getting hit by these charged fireballs will subtract 10 seconds from your time limit, so avoid these or return them properly.
You'll find that the challenge is significantly easier once enough Energy gets charged up. When you see a Star Point, use a Zone Shot to precisely target one of the Piranha Plants. You can also use your Special Shot to expend a little Energy and target the Piranha Plants as well.
After you complete this challenge, take the forked path to the right to reach the Forest Edge.
Forest Edge
The Forest Edge is another dead end, but that doesn't mean there isn't something for you to complete here.
Sure Shot Challenge (Beginner)
Objective: Hit 20 shots past your opponent with fewer than three misses. Difficulty: Easy
This challenge will test your ability to prevent your opponent from hitting the ball. To complete this, simply hit the ball in an area that Spike cannot reach. Don't miss returning the ball, and don't allow Spike to return the ball to you. This can be accomplished through the use of Lob Shots if Spike is close to the net, and Drop shots if Spike is playing deep. Alternatively, you can angle Flat shots away from Spike to play it safe and easily complete the challenge.
Similar to the previous challenge, the Piranha Plants will shoot fireballs at you, some of them charged up versions. Return these as appropriate to complete the challenge.
Completing this challenge will award you with the Wooden Racket, which not only allows you to tweak your stats, but they also give a sort of "extra life". This is explained more in the Game Mechanics section.
Retreat to the previous stage and take the fork to the left to reach the Ancient Altar.
Ancient Altar
Forest Monster
Objective: Defeat the boss of Piranha Plant Forest within the time limit. Difficulty: Easy
You've reached the boss of the Piranha Plant Forest: Petey Piranha! This boss fight is relatively easy and is the last challenge that stands between you and a Power Stone.
A Piranha Plant at the side of the "court" will spit fireballs at you. Return these fireballs to Petey and continue rallying to deplete his health bar. When his health bar drops to zero, he will fall down and a Star Point will appear. Perform a Zone Shot or Special Shot and aim for a small green spot on Petey's chest to hit. Hitting this spot will deplete a heart.
When Petey stands back up he'll throw small tornadoes towards you. Simply dodge these tornadoes by running between the large gap in each wave. After the waves of tornadoes, repeat the process of rallying shots to deplete Petey's health bar and hit the weak spot again.
After you deplete Petey's second heart, another session of tornado waves will begin. Dodge them as you did before, but be mindful of the very last wave. The last wave of tornadoes won't have a gap that you can easily run through, so time a Trick Shot perfectly to jump over the wave without taking damage.
Complete one more cycle of rallying shots, drop Petey's health bar to zero and hit his weak spot for the last time to defeat him and claim your first Power Stone.
