Understand Difficulty Settings, Power, Stats, Resources, and Status Effects in Marvel's Avengers. Learn how Easy, Hard, and Brutal modes impact gameplay.

Difficulty Selection

  • Easy: -5 Power, decreased enemy attack and defensive strength, more enemy attacks easily countered, no enemy attacks are unable to be countered.
  • Hard: +5 Power, increased enemy attack and defensive strength, more enemy attacks are difficult to counter, more enemy attacks are unable to be countered.
  • Brutal: +10 power, significantly increased enemy attacks and defensive strength, more enemy attacks are difficult to counter, more enemy attacks are unable to be countered.

Overall Stats

  • Power: The overall measure of the offensive and defensive strength of a Hero. It is the average power level of all equipped gear and Minor Artifacts plus any power bonus from Major Artifacts.
  • Melee Rating: The amount of base damage dealt, based on gear, passive skills, and associated stats (Might, Valor, and Proficiency).
  • Ranged Rating: The amount of base damage dealt, based on gear, passive skills, and associated stats (Precision, Valor, and Proficiency).
  • Defense Rating: The amount of damage a hero can take based on gear, passive skills, and stats (Resilience and Resolve).
  • Heroic Rating: The amount of damage a hero’s heroic abilities determined by gear, passive skills, and stats (Resilience, Valor, and Intensity).

Hero Stats

  • Might: Melee Damage. Increases close-quarters strength and charge speed of Ultimate Heroic abilities.
  • Precision: Ranged Damage. Increases ranged strength and charge speed of Assault Heroic abilities.
  • Proficiency: Critical Chance, Perk Chance. Increases the chance that hits inflict critical damage and that randomly activated gear perks will trigger.
  • Valor: Heroic Effectiveness, Critical Damage. Increases Heroic ability strength, and the amount outgoing damage is scaled by critical hits.
  • Resolve: Max Willpower (Health), Willpower Recovery Effectiveness. Increases how long Heroes can stay in combat and the amount of Willpower recovered from external sources.
  • Resilience: Armor. Increases resistance to damage and charge speed of Support Heroic abilities.
  • Intensity: Stun/Status Meter Damage, Status Resistance. Increases resistance to status damage and the speed at which enemy stun and colored status meters fill.

Resources

  • Nanite, Nanotube, Catalyst, and Plasma: Used to upgrade gear.
  • Polychoron: Used to increase the power of Major Artifacts.
  • Uru: Used to increase the power of Minor Artifacts.

Status Effects

  • Cryo Freeze: Slowing movement and decreasing the frequency of all actions. Inhabits many defensive abilities altogether.
  • Cosmic Ionization: Increase in damage from incoming attacks while simultaneously boosting Hero Willpower.
  • Daze: Temporarily obscuring visibility.
  • Drain: Reducing the enemy of their Heroic ability meters.
  • Electro Stock: Increased damage from incoming attacks and a greater chance that Critical Attacks will occur.
  • Freeze: Inhibiting all movement and partially encasing them in ice.
  • Gamma Poisoning: Incurring additional intermittent damage that they spread to nearby enemies. Being defeated while suffering status effect causes a large gamma explosion.
  • Negatively Charged Damage Types: Cryo, Shock, and Gamma status damage are all Negatively Charged. These damage types inflict increased damage against enemies that are suffering from Positively Charged status effects that have a warm color.
  • Plasma Burn: Intermittently interrupted from attacking. Some enemies will also be staggered by this effect.
  • Positively Charged Damage Types: Plasma, Particle, and Cosmic status damage are all Positively Charged. These damage types inflict increased damage against enemies that are suffering from Negatively Charged status effects that have a cool color.
  • Pym Shrink: The Pym Particles causes them to shrink. While reduced in size, enemies deal less damage and take more damage from all attacks.
  • Status Damage: Some attacks or offensive gear items cause Status damage. This drives one of several Status meters above the enemy’s health bar. When any Status meter is filled, the enemy is struck with a Status penalty.
  • Suppress: Inhibiting their ability to Sprint. Dodge, Vault, or use special movement abilities.
  • Weaken: Reduces the impact of their attacks so that they no longer interrupt attacking enemies.

Moves & Controls (PS4)

  • Airborne Enemies: Hold L2 to Aim and press R2 to Shoot flying enemies in hard to reach areas.
  • Counter: Blue or yellow icons appear above enemies about to attack. Press R2 to counter attacks and avoid damage. Attacks with a red icon cannot be countered.
  • Evasion: Press Circle to quickly avoid incoming attacks. Double tap Circle to perform a longer distance evasive maneuver that can escape from a greater variety of attacks.
  • Power Attacks: A Power Attack can break through a blocking enemy’s defenses. Perform a Power Attack by holding Triangle.
  • Takedowns: Press Triangle + Circle to perform a high damage maneuver a stunned enemies with low health and instantly recover some Willpower.
  • Target Lock: Press R3 to lock the camera onto the enemy closest to the center of the screen. Flick the left stick towards nearby enemies to quickly switch the locked target. Press R3 again to unlock the camera.

Missions

Assignments: Collect Assignments from Coordinators in Outposts. Progress against active Assignments is always being tracked, regardless of which Mission is being played. Active Assignments can be reviewed in the Assignments submenu of the main menu.
