Weapon Upgrades & Modifications
In the desolate, decaying world of Post Trauma, every advantage counts. Weapon upgrades and modifications are crucial for survival, allowing you to enhance your offensive capabilities and adapt to the increasingly grotesque threats you'll face. Unlike traditional RPGs, upgrades are not purchased; instead, they are found as rare components scattered throughout the environment. These components are then combined with your existing weapons at specific, hidden Workbenches.
Understanding Weapon Upgrades
Each weapon in your arsenal has a limited number of modification slots, typically 2-3 depending on the weapon type. Upgrades are permanent once applied, so choose wisely! You cannot remove an upgrade once it's installed. Always consider your playstyle and the challenges ahead before committing.
- Damage Boosts: Increase the raw damage output of your firearms. Essential for taking down tougher enemies more efficiently.
- Accuracy Enhancements: Reduce weapon spread and recoil, making it easier to land critical headshots, especially with the Pistol and Shotgun.
- Magazine Capacity: Allows you to carry more rounds per magazine, reducing reload frequency during intense encounters.
- Fire Rate Modifiers: Increases how quickly you can fire successive shots. Particularly useful for the SMG.
- Melee Impact: For your trusty Pipe, these upgrades increase its blunt force, making it more effective against close-range threats.
Finding Upgrade Components
Upgrade components are exceptionally rare and often hidden in obscure locations, requiring thorough exploration. Always be on the lookout for sparkling objects or subtle environmental cues.
Early Game Components (Hospital Wing):
- Reinforced Spring (Pistol Fire Rate): Located in the Operating Theater. After the encounter with the first "Crawler" creature, check the overturned medical cart near the blood-stained gurney.
- Precision Sight (Pistol Accuracy): Found in the Doctor's Office (Room 304). Solve the "Patient Records" puzzle (code is 731) to unlock the desk drawer.
Mid Game Components (Residential Sector):
- Extended Magazine (Shotgun Capacity): In the Apartment Complex, Unit 2B. You'll need the "Maintenance Key" from the Janitor's Closet on the ground floor. Once inside, check behind the dilapidated sofa.
- Heavy Barrel (Shotgun Damage): Within the Submerged Basement of the Residential Sector. Navigate the flooded corridors until you reach a locked storage cage. The "Storage Cage Key" is on a corpse floating near the main water pump. The Heavy Barrel is inside the cage, on a shelf.
Late Game Components (Industrial Zone & Beyond):
- High-Velocity Rounds (SMG Damage): Located in the Abandoned Factory, Assembly Line 7. This component is guarded by a "Brute" enemy. After defeating it, search the control panel console.
- Ergonomic Grip (SMG Accuracy): Found in the Research Lab, Specimen Storage. You'll need to bypass the biometric scanner (use the "Deceased Scientist's Hand" found in the adjacent office). The grip is on a dissection table.
- Serrated Edge (Pipe Melee Damage): Deep within the Underground Tunnels, near the collapsed section. Requires careful navigation through a gas-filled area (ensure you have a "Gas Mask"). It's lodged in a cracked pipe.
Utilizing Workbenches
Workbenches are rare, safe havens where you can combine your found components with your weapons. They are usually found near save points or significant story areas.
- Locate a Workbench: The first Workbench is found in the Hospital Wing, Maintenance Room, shortly after acquiring the Shotgun. Subsequent Workbenches appear in the Residential Sector, Community Center (behind a locked door requiring the "Community Center Keycard" from the Overseer's Office) and the Industrial Zone, Main Processing Plant (on a raised platform accessible via a malfunctioning crane).
- Interact with the Workbench: Approach and press the interact button. This will open a dedicated upgrade interface.
- Select Weapon: Choose the weapon you wish to modify from your inventory.
- Apply Component: Drag and drop the desired upgrade component into an empty modification slot on the weapon. A confirmation prompt will appear. Confirm to apply the upgrade permanently.
Remember, strategic upgrading can significantly ease your journey through the horrors of Post Trauma. Prioritize upgrades that complement your combat style and the specific threats you are currently facing.
