The Dried King
The Dried King is a formidable boss found deep within the Ziggurat of Dust. This skeletal monarch commands powerful fire magic and summons minions, making him a challenging encounter. Proper preparation and understanding his attack patterns are key to victory.
Location and Access
You will encounter The Dried King after navigating the treacherous upper levels of the Ziggurat of Dust. From the Sanctuary in the Ziggurat, proceed upwards, dealing with the various mummified enemies and traps. You'll eventually reach a long, horizontal platform leading to the boss arena.
Recommended Preparations
- Armor: Equip armor with high fire resistance, such as the Iron Mask, Iron Cuirass, and other pieces from the Iron Set, if available. The Blacksmith's Set also offers decent protection.
- Rings: The Burning Sky Ring (found in the Hager's Cavern) is highly recommended for its fire defense. The Mossy Ring can also be useful for stamina regeneration.
- Consumables: Bring plenty of Red Flasks for healing. Consider using Flame Barrier incantations or Flame Resist Tonics for additional fire defense.
- Weapon Enchantments: The Dried King is vulnerable to Holy damage. Consider using Blessed Pages or the Divine Blessed Weapon incantation if your build allows.
Boss Strategy
The Dried King has several distinct attacks:
- Fireball Barrage: He will launch multiple fireballs in quick succession. These can be dodged by rolling through them or blocked with a high-stability shield.
- Flame Breath: The King will sometimes breathe a stream of fire directly in front of him. This is a good opportunity to get behind him for a few hits if you're quick.
- Summon Skeletons: He will periodically summon Skeletons to assist him. Prioritize taking these out quickly, as they can overwhelm you if left unchecked. Area-of-effect attacks are very effective here.
- Ground Slam (Phase 2): Once his health is significantly depleted, he may begin to perform a ground slam that creates a small fire AoE. Roll away from this attack.
Melee Strategy
For melee characters, the key is to stay aggressive but cautious. Dodge or block his fire attacks and look for openings to get in close. His back is often a safe spot after his Flame Breath. When he summons skeletons, quickly dispatch them before returning your focus to the King. Use your Holy damage enchantments for maximum effect.
Ranged/Magic Strategy
Ranged and magic users have an easier time with The Dried King's fire attacks, as they can maintain distance. Focus on dealing consistent damage while keeping an eye on the summoned skeletons. Use spells or arrows that deal Holy or high elemental damage. Be mindful of your stamina/focus for dodging and attacking.
Rewards
Upon defeating The Dried King, you will receive:
- Salt: A significant amount of Salt for leveling up.
- Gold: A decent sum of Gold.
- Dried King's Ashes: This unique item can be transmuted into powerful weapons or armor at a Stone Alchemist.
- Black Pearl: A valuable crafting material.
After the fight, continue exploring the Ziggurat of Dust. The path forward will lead you to new areas and challenges.
