Master Classic and Modern Sonic's moves and unlockable skills in Sonic Generations. Learn controls for Spin Dash, Homing Attack, Wall Jump, and more.

Classic Sonic Controls:

  1. Move Around: Use the Left Analog stick left or right.
  2. Look Up: Move the Left Analog Stick up when not moving.
  3. Crouch: Move the Left Analog Stick down or press the B Button when not moving. This helps Sonic dodge enemy attacks and certain hazards.
  4. Spin Jump: Press the A Button while standing or running. Classic Sonic's jump height is affected by his speed.
  5. Spin Dash: Press and hold the X Button or crouch down then press and release the Jump button. The longer you hold or press the Jump button, the more momentum Sonic has.

Modern Sonic Controls:

  1. Move Around: Move the Left Analog stick in the direction you want to go.
  2. Crouch: Press and hold the B Button when not moving or on a rail. Use this to dodge and get under places on moving platforms.
  3. Slide: Press the B Button when running. Use this to dodge while moving.
  4. Spin Jump: Press the A Button while standing or running. Pressing the button lightly results in a hop without spinning, while pressing it harder results in the highest jump while spinning.
  5. Homing Attack: Press the A button while in midair. In Sonic Generations, Sonic can home attack enemies, Springs, and Rails.
  6. Stomp: Press the B Button while in midair. This allows Sonic to destroy boxes, enemies on the ground, and other objects. It also allows him to bounce higher on springs and Spring Poles.
  7. Wall Jump: Press the A Button while holding the Analog Stick/D Pad in the same direction as soon as you touch a Wall or Wall Jump Panel. Press the Jump Button again as soon as you jump to the other wall on the opposite side, and again to reach the top. Combined with the Jump Dash/Air Boost, you can reach high areas. Sonic can Wall Jump to stop his fall, Air Boost to reach the other wall, and repeat to eventually get to safety. Watch your timing.
  8. Sonic Boost: Press/Hold the X Button when the Boost Gauge has filled to move faster, destroy incoming enemies, and run on water. Pressing the Jump Button while holding the Boost Button allows Sonic to jump while keeping speed. Any rings Sonic passes will be drawn towards him.
  9. Jump Dash/Air Boost: Press the X Button while in midair. This allows Sonic to move quickly in midair. When the Boost Gauge is empty, it's a Jump Dash. When the Boost Gauge is filled, it becomes an Air Dash, which is more powerful.
  10. Boost Gauge: This gauge is shown on the bottom of the screen. When empty, Sonic cannot perform regular boosts or Air Boosts. To fill it up, collect Rings and destroy enemies.
  11. Quick Step: While moving forward, press LB to quickly move left or RB to quickly move right.
  12. Sonic Drift: Move the Analog Stick in the direction you want to drift while holding the B Button. This is extremely useful for going around corners fast.
  13. Grinding/Grind Step: Move the Analog Stick to switch rails. Press A to jump without moving the Analog Stick to stay on the same rail. Hold the B Button to move faster.
  14. Freestyle Tricks: Sometimes when Sonic goes off trick ramps or through Rainbow Rings, he performs tricks by pressing the Analog Stick in different directions. It stops when Sonic touches the ground or rail. Press LB and RB after a Trick to finish it. Tricks can extend the Boost Gauge past its maximum range.
  15. Skydiving: Sometimes while in midair, Sonic will slowly float down. You can use the Boost Button to move faster, but he becomes harder to move.
  16. Lightspeed Dash: When near Rings with auras, press the Y Button to collect them quickly. Lightspeed Dashing normally leads to shortcuts.
