Eggman, seeing he's in trouble, tries to make a run for it in a weird spaceship. Sonic, as Super Sonic, catches up, and Eggman actually begs for mercy. It looks like Sonic's won!

But here's the twist: Sonic, feeling generous, lets Eggman go. As soon as Sonic starts to leave, Eggman hits a switch. BAM! An energy cage traps Super Sonic. Eggman's machines then snatch the Chaos Emeralds away from Sonic. Turns out, that spaceship was actually a giant Chaos Energy Cannon! He uses the energy from Sonic and the Emeralds to fire a massive ray at Earth.

This blast breaks the planet into pieces, which start floating around the Earth's core. It also wakes up this ancient evil called Dark Gaia.
