Multiplayer Strategies & Etiquette — Sons of the Forest Guide

Enhance your co-op survival in Sons of the Forest with effective multiplayer strategies and crucial etiquette tips for a harmonious group experience.

When playing Sons of the Forest in multiplayer, certain strategies can enhance your experience, especially concerning resource management and companion interaction. Understanding how to effectively use game mechanics, like item respawns and log duplication, can give your team an advantage. Additionally, knowing how to manage companions like Kelvin and Virginia in a shared base is crucial for smooth cooperative play.

Item and Container Respawn

Items and containers will respawn in Sons of the Forest. Exiting and relaunching the game causes all items and containers to reappear. This behavior is currently present in Early Access.

Log Duplication Method: The 90-Degrees

Multiplayer servers can use a specific method to duplicate logs. This method requires:

  • Two logs placed: one pointing in a direction, and another going upwards.
  • A third log placed 90 degrees to the first on the ground.
  • A fourth log stood up on the floor, touching the three other logs.

Due to the game's collision mechanic, this setup will likely duplicate the fourth log. This log duplication method primarily works for players who are not hosting the server. It can also work with other physical objects, such as stones stuck in the ground, that prevent the log from spawning correctly.

Companion Management

  • Befriending Virginia: To befriend Virginia, simply do nothing that harms her. She will eventually open up to you.
  • Kelvin in Base: Kelvin can enter your house or base, but he may not always go inside. Building a chair can help encourage him to enter.
  • Reviving Companions: Virginia or Kelvin can be revived if they are knocked down by an NPC. However, they will not revive if you kill them yourself. They can also die permanently if knocked down by an NPC and then killed by another NPC.
