Learn about Journey Mode in Tetris Effect: Connected! This guide covers the core gameplay, including the Zone mechanic, scoring, and how to master each stage.

Journey Mode

Journey Mode is the heart of Tetris Effect, where you'll experience the game's core mechanics and progression. It's where you'll really get a feel for the game and its unique atmosphere.

The Zone Mechanic

The star of Journey Mode is the Zone mechanic. Think of it as your special ability that can help you out of a tight spot or rack up some serious points. You charge up the Zone meter by clearing lines. Once it's full, you can activate Zone!

When Zone is active, gravity pauses, and any lines you clear get pushed to the bottom of the screen. This gives you a chance to catch your breath and set up some massive clears. The Zone lasts for a limited time, so use it wisely!

In Journey Mode, the maximum Zone duration is 20 seconds. While it was initially thought that 20 lines was the max you could clear in one Zone activation (since that's the spawn height of the pieces), players have discovered ways to achieve even higher clears. The first player to achieve a 21-line clear was Kirby703, and it was even renamed a 'Kirbtris'! She later managed a 22-line 'Impossibilitris' and a 23-line 'Infinitris' using a clever I-piece strategy.

With the Connected update, multiplayer modes introduced new strategies, allowing for even higher clears. Players like Electra have achieved 24 and 25-line clears, dubbed 'Electris'.

Scoring in Zone

Clearing lines within Zone is crucial for scoring. The more lines you clear at once, the more points you'll earn. Setting up Tetris clears (4 lines) or even higher clears within Zone can significantly boost your score.

Grading and Scoring

After each stage in Journey Mode, you'll receive a grade based on your performance. This includes factors like your score, how quickly you cleared lines, and how effectively you used the Zone mechanic. Aim for the highest grade possible!

List of Stages

Journey Mode features a variety of stages, each with its own unique visual theme and music. As you progress, the speed and difficulty will increase, testing your skills and reflexes. Pay attention to the stage's theme, as it often ties into the music and overall experience.
