The Role of Trainers
Throughout Vvardenfell, you'll find NPCs known as Trainers. These individuals, often found in major cities and guild halls, can increase your skill levels for a fee. Each trainer specializes in certain skills, and their training level is indicated by a number. Higher-level trainers can advance your skills further. It's wise to seek out the highest-level trainers available for the skills you wish to improve.
Finding Trainers
Trainers are typically associated with specific guilds or factions. For example:
- Fighters Guild: Offers training in various combat skills like Long Blade, Axe, Blunt Weapon, Heavy Armor, and Block.
- Mages Guild: Provides training in magical schools such as Destruction, Mysticism, Restoration, Alteration, Illusion, and Conjuration.
- Thieves Guild: Focuses on stealth and subterfuge skills like Sneak, Security, Short Blade, and Light Armor.
- Temple: Offers training in skills related to faith and healing, such as Restoration and Mysticism.
- Independent Trainers: Some trainers are not affiliated with a major guild and can be found in various towns and cities, often specializing in unique skills or offering a broader range of training.
Skill Progression Mechanics
Your character's skills increase through two primary methods:
- Using the Skill: The most organic way to improve a skill is by actively using it in combat or gameplay. For example, hitting enemies with a sword increases your Long Blade skill, while successfully picking a lock increases your Security skill.
- Trainer Fees: Paying gold to a trainer is a faster, albeit more expensive, method to increase your skill level. Each trainer has a limited number of training sessions they can provide per character level.
Strategic Training
It's generally more efficient to focus on a few key skills that al with your character's build. For a warrior, this might mean prioritizing combat skills and heavy armor. For a mage, focusing on magical schools and perhaps a supporting skill like Alteration for defense. Don't spread your training too thin, as it can lead to a less specialized and weaker character.
Cost of Training
The cost of training increases with the skill level and the trainer's expertise. Higher-level trainers will charge more gold per session. It's advisable to have a steady income stream through quests, selling loot, or other means to afford consistent training.
