How to Beat Captain Valerius (Prologue)

Defeat Captain Valerius in The First Berserker: Khazan's prologue. Dodge his three-hit combo and charging thrust for successful counter-attacks.

Phase 1: Imperial Blade

Valerius primarily uses a large two-handed sword. His main attacks are a three-hit combo (swing, swing, overhead slam) and a charging thrust. The combo is slow and easily dodged; dodge through the first two swings to get behind him for a counter-attack. The charging thrust is his most dangerous move. It has a clear wind-up, indicated by him lowering his sword and bracing. This is your prime opportunity to parry. A successful parry will stun him for a few seconds, allowing you to unleash a full heavy attack combo. Avoid blocking his heavy attacks directly, as they will deplete your stamina quickly. Keep your distance after his combos to regenerate stamina.

Phase 2: Desperate Stand (Below 50% HP)

Once Valerius reaches approximately 50% health, he will become more aggressive. He gains a new attack: a wide-arc spin attack that covers a large area around him. This attack is telegraphed by him roaring and spinning his sword above his head. Dodge backwards to avoid it. He will also perform his charging thrust more frequently. Continue to prioritize parrying this move. He may also occasionally throw a smoke bomb, briefly obscuring your vision. During this time, listen for his attack cues and be ready to dodge.
