How to Beat The Maw: General Strategies

Conquer the Mam in The Medium. Master stealth and evasion tactics, using environmental cover and your Spirit Shield to evade its sensitive hearing.

The Maw is blind but has an acute sense of hearing. Your primary strategy against it is stealth and evasion. Move slowly and quietly (avoid sprinting unless absolutely necessary for a quick escape). Use environmental cover such as overturned furniture, walls, or moth swarms to break its line of sight (or rather, its line of sound). If detected, sprint to the nearest safe zone or exit. Your Spirit Shield (hold Left Click or RT/R2) can briefly stun it, giving you a precious few seconds to escape. Your Spirit Blast (hold Right Click or LT/L2) can be used to activate spirit mechanisms that might create distractions or open new paths, but it also makes noise. Always plan your route and listen for its growls and footsteps.
