While the game itself is still a bit of a mystery with its release date up in the air, we can still talk about what we know regarding its development and how it connects to the Fables universe.

Originally, Telltale Games was working on a direct sequel, picking up Bigby and Snow's story after the events of the first season. It was planned to be a completely new mystery, not directly tying up the cliffhanger from the first game, but it was set to be a winter-themed adventure, a setting many fans were hoping for. Sadly, Telltale's closure in 2018 meant this project, along with others, was cancelled. It was a tough blow for fans who were eagerly awaiting more of Bigby's adventures.

But here's the good news: the story didn't end there! After Telltale's assets were picked up, The Wolf Among Us 2 was revived. This means everything is being built from the ground up, which is pretty exciting. We're looking at a full five-episode season this time around, and it's going to be the first Telltale game to ditch the old Telltale Tool Engine for the much more powerful Unreal Engine 5. This switch did cause a delay, pushing the release past its initial 2023 target, and the exact release date is still TBA.
