The Persian Empire, a civilization with a history stretching back centuries before the Middle Ages, played a significant role in conflicts with the Romans and later the Byzantines. Their empire encompassed vast territories from Mesopotamia to India. The Sassanid dynasty eventually fell to the Islamic Arabs in the seventh century.

In Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, the Persians boast several unique advantages. All Knights gain an extra 2 attack against Archers. Economically, they start with 50 extra wood and food, allowing for faster initial Villager production. Both Town Centers and Docks have double HP, making them more resilient.

The Persians receive a work rate bonus that increases with age: +10% in Feudal Age, +15% in Castle Age, and +20% in Imperial Age, boosting the production speed of Villagers and Fishing Ships, and allowing for faster naval unit production.

Persian Technology Tree Overview

Archery Range

Persians can train Archers and Crossbowmen, but lack Arbalests, making their mainstream archers weaker. They do, however, get Skirmishers and Elite Skirmishers, as well as Cavalry Archers and Hand Cannoneers. The Bracer upgrade is unavailable.

Infantry

Their infantry line includes Spearmen and Pikemen for anti-cavalry defense. They can train Militia, Men at Arms, and Long Swordsmen, but do not have access to Two Handed Swordsmen or Champions. They do get the Blast Furnace and Plate Mail Armor upgrades.

Cavalry

The Persian cavalry is exceptionally strong, with access to Knights, Cavaliers, and Paladins. They also get Camels and Heavy Camels. Blacksmith upgrades include Forging, Iron Casting, Blast Furnace for attack, and Scale Barding Armor, Chain Barding Armor, and Plate Barding Armor for defense. Their cavalry is considered perfect, with Heavy Camels being a significant threat.

Dock

The Persian navy is robust, featuring Galleons, Fast Fire Ships, Heavy Demolition Ships, and Elite Cannon Galleons. They lack the Shipwright technology, but their naval units are powerful.
