Learn how to master combat in Assassin's Creed Rogue! Discover effective counter attacks, chain kills, and how to handle different enemy types to survive any fight.

Combat in Assassin's Creed Rogue is all about patience and timing, just like the games before it. Your main goal is to watch for enemy attacks and then hit the right button at the perfect moment to pull off a counter-maneuver. It sounds simple, but it's the key to surviving any brawl.

Counters

When you're in a fight and an enemy is about to swing at you, you'll see a red icon flash above their head. This is your cue! Press the counter button right when you see that flash, and you'll automatically perform a special move. Depending on the situation, this counter can:

• Instantly kill the enemy with your sword.
• Take them out with a ranged attack.
• Disarm or stun them, leaving them vulnerable.
• Let you grab and throw them across the battlefield.

Keep an eye out for that red icon – it's your best friend in combat. You can even chain these counters together. If you counter-kill an enemy and during the finishing animation, you quickly highlight another nearby enemy and press the attack button, Shay will immediately move on to take them down too. This is called a kill streak, and you can keep it going as long as you can chain the attacks. Just remember, some tougher enemies like captains and brutes can't be taken down with these quick chain attacks, so you'll need to fight them head-on.
