Learn about Riddles, Trophies, Interview Tapes, Chronicles of Arkham, and Joker Teeth in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Use Environmental Analysis to solve clues.
Riddles appear as white squares with a question mark on the (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)) grid, accompanied by a green text clue. To solve them, you must find a specific piece of scenery within Arkham Asylum and hold down the (L2) button to perform an Environmental Analysis. There are two types of Riddles:
- Normal Riddle: These are physical objects within the game's environment that relate to the clue, often referencing Batman lore.
- Invisible Question Mark: Found in every area, these are question marks painted onto scenery that are only visible when (Detective Mode) is active. They are often broken into pieces across different objects, requiring you to align them to form a complete mark before performing an Environmental Analysis. A clue for a Riddle in the immediate area will appear when you enter a new location.
Riddler Trophies are bright green question marks on pedestals, similar to their appearance in the (RC) menu grid. These are pickups hidden throughout Arkham Asylum. Simply walk over them and press (X) to collect them.
Interview Tapes are reel tapes, often found in office areas, that contain interviews with famous inmates. There are five tapes in each major area, corresponding to a specific inmate. The order you find them in does not matter; you will always find the next one sequentially. The areas and their associated inmates are: Arkham Island - The Joker, Intensive Treatment - Harley Quinn, Medical Facility - The Riddler, Caves - Killer Croc, Arkham Mansion - The Scarecrow, Penitentiary - Victor Zsasz, Botanical Gardens - Poison Ivy.
Chronicles of Arkham are stone slabs with an insect motif and circular writing, containing carved writings of "The Spirit of Amadeus Arkham." To examine them, hold (L2) for Environmental Analysis when close enough. Like the Interview Tapes, these are heard in sequential order regardless of the order found. The final Chronicle is not hidden in the usual way but is located in the area where you discover the solution to the mystery behind the Spirit.
Joker Teeth are small, chattering teeth left by The Joker. They bounce around but do not harm you. You are tasked with breaking each one using (Batarangs). Each building contains 20 teeth, and each part of the grounds contains 10. They are often placed near the entrances of areas you need to progress to, acting as destination markers. You may not find all teeth in an area on your first visit, as they can appear later in the game as you progress. Notes are provided for when and where these teeth appear.
Secrets Maps are found one in each area. Once collected, opening the (Map screen) reveals floating question marks, indicating the general location of a particular (RC) collectible. The only collectibles not shown on these maps are Joker Teeth.
