Learn about the Town of Jova in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, including item costs like the Thorn Whip for 100 Hearts and starting with 50 Hearts.
Walkthrough
- 1After the opening prologue and title screen, select NEW GAME.
- 2You begin in the Town of Jova with 50 Hearts, which serve as the game's currency.
- 3Walk right from your starting position.
- 4Enter the church to regain your health by talking to the priest.
- 5Continue right and go down the stairs to find a vendor selling the White Crystal for 50 Hearts. This item is necessary for game progression.
- 6Nearby, enter another door to find a vendor selling Holy Water for 50 Hearts. This item can help reveal hidden areas and makes some fights easier.
- 7To the left of town, you can find a directional sign and NPCs. Head up to a small platform in the middle of town to find another vendor selling the Thorn Whip for 100 Hearts. This whip is twice as powerful and has a longer reach than your starting Leather Whip.
- 8To the left of Jova is Belasco Marsh, which contains tough enemies and damaging swamp terrain; it is recommended to avoid this area initially.
- 9Head right out of town towards Jova Woods.
Tips
- You start with 50 Hearts. To buy everything available in Jova (Thorn Whip for 100 Hearts, White Crystal for 50 Hearts, Holy Water for 50 Hearts), you will need a total of 200 Hearts (150 more than you start with).
- Consider skipping the Thorn Whip upgrade if you plan to get the next whip upgrade, the Chain Whip, soon after.
- Grinding for Hearts can be done outside of town. Enemies like Skeletons and Wolf Men appear here.
- Nights in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest make monsters stronger, requiring twice as many hits to defeat, but they also drop twice as many Hearts, making nights ideal for grinding.
- The Priest in the church refills your health.
- NPCs in town offer various clues, such as needing a Magic Potion to destroy an evil wall or that clues to Dracula's riddle are in the town of Veros.
