In Cities XL, your success as a mayor hinges on developing and strategically utilizing your character's skills and abilities. Unlike traditional RPGs, these aren't combat-oriented, but rather focus on enhancing your city's growth, efficiency, and overall prosperity. Mastering these will allow you to tackle larger projects, manage complex economies, and ultimately create the metropolis of your dreams.

Skill Categories

Skills are broadly categorized into three main trees:

• Urban Planning: Focuses on city layout, infrastructure, and zoning efficiency.
• Economic Management: Enhances trade, resource production, and financial stability.
• Diplomacy & Influence: Improves relations with other cities, unlocks unique contracts, and boosts citizen happiness.

Acquiring Skill Points

Skill points are earned through various in-game actions:

1. Leveling Up: Each time your overall Mayor Level increases, you gain 1-2 skill points, depending on the level milestone.
2. Completing Quests: Many main storyline and side quests offer skill points as rewards. Look for quests from the "City Council" (located in your main administrative building) or "Trade Guild Representatives" (found in the Global Market district).
3. Special Events: Occasionally, limited-time events or challenges will award bonus skill points. Keep an eye on the in-game news feed.

Recommended Early Game Skill Progression

Resetting Skills

Don't be afraid to experiment! If you feel your skill distribution isn't working, you can reset your skill points. Visit the "Mayor's Office" in your central administrative building and interact with the "Skill Respecification Terminal". The first reset is free, subsequent resets cost a small amount of Omnium, increasing with each use.
