Begin by building defenses around the hill. Send two veteran rifle squads north to find and rescue trapped rangers. Acquiring the BAR upgrade first is recommended.

Capture as many points as possible with spare infantry during the initial 5-minute grace period. Build tank traps around Mortain and an MG emplacement behind the point. Station a squad near your main HQ for reinforcements.

Surround the hill with tank traps and 3-4 MG emplacements covering critical entrances. Crew AT guns and position MGs near medic tents, optionally garrisoning them in buildings for longevity.

After a cutscene, German forces will attack from the right side of the map. Reinforce these points with MG emplacements and at least one AT gun. Build a halftrack from the motorpool for anti-infantry support and to reinforce hot spots.

Beware of German artillery barrages on the hill. Evacuate temporarily when flares drop and return after the barrage ceases. Replace lost units and watch for snipers accompanying the assault force.

Mid-mission, a howitzer becomes available. Hotkey it and defend it with a rifle squad. The howitzer is a high-priority target for the AI, but strong defenses should mitigate this.

If Mortain's defense is overwhelmed, use howitzers on enemy positions attempting to capture the point, and send in reserve rifle squads from your HQ to clear remaining enemies.

Your HQ will also face attacks. Ensure engineers build adequate defenses. The rescued rangers can assist in defending the HQ if necessary.

Equip rifle squads with any dropped panzershrecks for a significant firepower boost.

Enemy attacks generally come in waves. Successfully defending against these waves without heavy losses is key to surviving. If the front line collapses, fall back to the center of the hill, but be mindful of artillery. Holding the hill for 30 minutes is the objective; strong defenses may even cause the Axis to retreat in the final minute.
