Level 1: Turtle Woods

Complete walkthrough for Crash Bandicoot's first level, Turtle Woods. Find all boxes, gems (including the Blue Gem), and secrets in this guide.

Walkthrough: Start by breaking the "?" Box and proceeding up the hill. You can defeat the first enemy or jump over the obstacle. Jump on the Bounce Box, then bounce between the two boxes for Wumpa Fruit. Continue forward, wading through mud and collecting fruit, avoiding the pit to your left. Break the "?" Box and pass the next enemy. Jump over the pit and head to the stack of boxes; break the bottom two, then bounce on or break the Bounce Box. Jump over the next pit, kill the enemy, and break the box. You can body slam a specific object on the ground to open a path to a SECRET AREA, which is necessary for the Silver Gem. Continue on, break the box for Aku Aku, and hit the Checkpoint Box. To defeat the turtles, jump on their shells to flip them, then jump on them again to bounce. Past the turtles, stand on the "?" spot on the ground to enter the BONUS STAGE.

Bonus Stage: Break the box right past the entrance. Jump onto the box in the mud (you cannot break boxes while in mud). At the other end of the mud, jump from the ground onto the second box. Hop over the pit, kill the enemy, and deal with the turtles. Past them, you'll find a checkpoint and a wall of boxes. Break through them all, grab the Aku Aku, and drop into the small pit. Kill the two rats to make a mushroom appear, which you can bounce on to exit the pit. When you see the next turtle, don't kill it; jump on its shell to flip it, then bounce to the "?" Box above. Spin to break it and collect the life. Break the next three boxes. Jump into the pit and kill the rats to make the mushroom appear. Go forward through the mud and collect the CRYSTAL. Go to the small pit and kill the rats to make the mushroom appear. Jump across the last pit to finish the level.

Secret Area: Break all boxes near the start, then jump across platforms to the right. Jump on the turtles to flip them, allowing you to kill them. Further on, there are two more boxes and a checkpoint. Jump to the next platform, then over or on the bird. Break the box on the next platform and jump to the one after. Break the two boxes here, then slide and jump to reach the platform with boxes above the Nitro. After this, jump down to the platform with the Arrow Crate. Break the crate and jump to the platform on the right. Jump onto the pink bird's back and quickly jump from there to the platform with boxes. You have limited time before the bird lowers its head. Jump onto the next bird and then to the platform with a single box. Break it and collect the life. Drop down to the left and break the boxes. Proceed right, jumping over the bird. The final platform has a "!" Box to destroy the Nitro and a normal box. Spin both and ride the platform back up.

Getting the Blue Gem: To get the Blue Gem, finish the level without breaking ANY boxes. The gem will appear at the end. In an area with a checkpoint and a wall of boxes behind it, slide and jump to get over them.
