A complete Dragon Quest IX walkthrough for Gittingham Palace, detailing boss strategies for Hootingham-Gore, Goresby-Purrvis, and King Godwyn, plus item locations.
Walkthrough
- 1Enter Gittingham Palace. Lieutenant Hootingham-Gore will greet you.
- 2Boss Fight: Lieutenant Hootingham-Gore & 2x Bad Karmour. Focus on the Bad Karmours first as they can interfere with your attacks on Gore. Gore uses weak spells like Fuddle and elemental attacks; avoid using magic as he has high resistance and casts Bounce. Physical attacks are effective.
- 3After defeating Gore, proceed to L1 South and take the west path to the roof. Collect the [MINI MEDAL] to the left of the palace entrance.
- 4Use Evac and re-enter L1 South. Take the east path to L1 East.
- 5In L1 East, open two chests containing a [MINI MEDAL] and a [RECKLESS NECKLACE].
- 6Exit northwest. Collect a [MINI MEDAL], [CELESTIAL SPEAR], and [5000 GOLD COINS] from six treasure chests (three blue, three red).
- 7Return to L1 East and enter the west door. Proceed southwest to find a chest with a [SEED OF DEFTNESS].
- 8Head west again to another door. Go northwest and open a chest with a [DARK SHIELD].
- 9Make your way to the healing circle and the stairway to L2.
- 10From L2, go to L3 and examine the bookshelf.
- 11Return to L2, check the bookshelf in the northwest corner, and exit east.
- 12On the palace outskirts, go north to find a chest with a [SEED OF SKILL].
- 13Proceed south and west to the central door. On L3, find a blue and a red chest containing a [MINI MEDAL].
- 14Take any exit, heal, and ascend the stairs. Talk to another Gittish Lieutenant.
- 15Boss Fight: Goresby-Purrvis. This boss is more challenging. He uses physical sword attacks, including Multislash (damages random party members) and Upward Slice (high damage, critical hit chance). He also uses Flame Slash and Kacrackle Slash rarely. Good armor and healing (Priest/Sage's Multiheal) are crucial. Use Zing/Kazing for revivals. Physical attacks are effective.
- 16After the scene, go through the door. Ensure you have Sage's Elixirs. Heal and talk to Godwyn.
- 17Boss Fight: King Godwyn (Form 1). This form is easy, using only Kafrizz and a ball fling attack. Heal as needed.
- 18Boss Fight: King Godwyn (Form 2). This form is much harder. Do not use buffs like Oomph, Buff, or Accelerate as Godwyn uses Disruptive Wave to remove them. He uses fire magic (Kafrizz, Inferno) and attacks twice per turn, making healing difficult. His regular attack is also damaging. Prioritize survival and damage.
Tips
- For Hootingham-Gore, prioritize eliminating the Bad Karmours first.
- Against Goresby-Purrvis, ensure your party has strong defensive gear and a reliable healer. Consider vocations like Thief or Paladin for their resilience.
- For King Godwyn's second form, focus on healing and dealing damage quickly, as his double attacks and powerful magic can overwhelm the party.
- Keep an eye on your HP and MP, and use Sage's Elixirs when necessary, especially before the final Godwyn fight.
